Just an idea - try ping -t bbc.co.uk
It'll make the ping keep going until you stop it, rather than having to do it in blocks of 4.

Since i moved to ADSL2 i have had numerious gaming issues and i play gear of war 24 - 7, this is know for lag.  When on ADSL i had the best connection going, never had issues.
Now looking at moving to virgin media, 50 meg down - 1.5 up

iam now 99% sure this is a PN trial capicity issue
i will post all my findings when pings drop back down again.
before PN see the evidence i would like to point out this is not just a midnight problem on thn-ag2 adsl2+ as i have sat with my laptop by my side pinging the thn-ag2 gateway all night why i was on the xbox.
all was fine from 9pm till 11pm and for 10 mins after 11pm i saw the same spikes in pings coupled with lag and a poor kill/death ratio   would this be due to rate limits being upped abit at this time?
Any way i will post my ping captures from before and just after midnight and post the rest when i find what time they go back to normal
p.s if you cant tell iam no longer on xbox due to this  and trying to amuse my self with this post
hope you find it funny 10mb+ syncers because your next in the dock

It shouldn't be a capacity issue.
There's comparitively more bandwidth available for our ADSL2+ users.  Sure, P2P rate limits may be reduced around that time, but it'll still be a lower priority than gaming, so shouldn't cause the increase in latency that you've been seeing.
Will be interesting to see tonights results.

yeah for brief 10 mins after 11pm i saw ping spikes it only effected one match of cod waw then it went back to my normal 14-16ms ping till midnight when all hell broke lose.
which led me to think that the slight increase of the rate limits on the hour of 11pm be it the fixed expected limits or the intellegent side of the traffic managment raising the rate limits causing the spikes for short period
was it patch tuesday when i saw lag in cod waw from 9pm onwards
how will know the order has completed as iam not sure if it would resync as theres no upsync on this add on

my pings havent been been perfect all day not bad but not perfect.
the eleveted weight seems to have made things worse if any thing
now its got to evening and they are shocking iam not even going to power the xbox up there that shocking.

5 mins latter back to normal it seems to happen on the hour during the day and stablizes 10 or so mins after.
but lasts for an hour or 2 when it kicks of at midnight.
still stands jameseh i want out this madness
would other trialist plz check if there seeing this latency problem plz the cmd to run the ping to the gateway is
ping -t 195.166.128.93
and to stop it crtl+c

well thats  the on the hour theroy  gone out the window.
so james if you can whack an order into tomoro or today depending when you read this i might just be able to use my xbox by the end of next week
