Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

I tried a tracert from the office which was absolutely fine. Their internet connection is via exponential-e.net - the route from there does NOT go through LINX

Here are screenshots for last 48h monitoring. Surprisingly, but today RETN route was much much better than usually (still not perfect though).

The problem is the issue is not with PN - it lies with the company that hosts dj.virtualdj.com who's peer has a problem in London.

But an issue raised by an ISP (Plusnet) would carry more weight than an issue raised by someone who isn't even a Proxad customer. Besides given the way packets are dropped a Plusnet name seems to be at one side of the problem "hop".

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

Thanks Kelly at least you are trying. My own ticket still hasn't been answered on this subject since Sunday. I originally tried getting through to someone on the phone but gave up after 40 minutes. Customer service is really down the drain right now at PlusNET (other than on the forums of course). The graphs above show it as what appears to be a congestion problem in the evenings. Maybe they just have a twitchy router though that is getting bogged down between those times. Looks like the only times I can do a live stream are in the early hours. I also now have a black mark against me with VDJ Radio.  Sad

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

I've moved the ticket to a network services pool now.  It's in the right place, there is very little we can do right now beyond double checking its not us, and pushing the 3rd party, which we'll do if we don't hear from them in a couple of days Sad
Sorry!
Actually, is it work trying with a VPN service to see if you can use a different route for the traffic?

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

Just because I hadn't realised, this thread has issue with two different providers.  The OP is talking about LINX<>RETN and Deadman2020 is talking about LINX<>ProXad

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

Do Plusnet have anything in place to actively monitor this? I suspect we have more chance of a good resolution if the process is investigation-driven rather than complaint-driven.

I don't believe there is much we can do.  Remember these are networks that we don't directly connect to.

npr can you recommend a VPN provider? Are you using a paid for service or free?

I was doing same tests to see if there is problem with RETN's LINX connection with other providers, here are screens of direct connection with PlusNet and VPN connection (they both use same RETN's LINX router).

Try the free version of Cyberghost.
IIRC you get 1 GB free per month, also you have a choice of country's for the server.
The free version is obviously going to have some congestion, I've used it for a few years now and always find it to have usable speed.

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

Hi
Just to keep you posted, we have had a reply from RETN who have acknowledged they have an issue with their LINX peering.  Apparently a fix has been made which they say should stop the packet loss, fingers crossed.

Re: Huge packet loss on specific destinations

Well that's a result, is the fix likely to cure the proxad issue as well? Or does that need to be addressed separately?
