Like many people here recently I have noticed a huge drop in my download speeds. I have tried reading through the other topics and posts, but as I'm new to this I'm still not sure what I can do.
The background. I live in the sticks, around 4-5km from the exchange, plusnet have supplied me with a good connection of about 1.6Mbps since September, I could stream videos no problem. Then I noticed very slow speeds about 1 week ago (when iPlayer and youtube etc were taking ages to buffer). I ran a speed test at bbmax which is where I traditionally check my speed and it was showing 240kbps !
I have been frantically learning about sync speed, attenuation, IPprofiles, but the advice for other people doesnt seem to apply.
Here are my numbers:
Router Stats:
Parameters
DSP Firmware Version E.25.41.32 A
Connected true
Operational Mode G.Dmt
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 448000
Downstream 2432000
SNR Margin(Upstream) 14 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 8.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 31.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 63.5 dB
CRC Errors(Upstream) 2
CRC Errors(Downstream) 2
Latency(Upstream) Interleave
Latency(Downstream) Interleave
BT Speedtester
Download speedachieved during the test was - 204 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2432 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 250 Kbps
Plusnet
Telephone number:
016974*****
Phone exchange:
SOUTHWAITE
Estimated line speed:
6 - Checked on 2009-08-11 20:42:22
Current line speed:
250
I think that's all the info you smart folk need.
I look forward to some advice.
Regards
Chew

Quote IP Profile for your line is - 250 Kbps
That's your problem, on the 11th your router connected at 288Kbps with the exchange which has caused the profile to be reduced, it appears that you had the same sync speed a few more times over the last week too which is why the profile hasn't increased.
Is the router in the master socket? Without any extension leads in use? And are all other phone sockets in use filtered?
If so and the line is now stable and the sync stays at 2432, then your profile should increase back to 2000 after 72 hours.

Thanks for the reply Chris,
The router is not in the master socket, however I have tested it with the master socket and the sync speeds are the same. All sockets are filtered and there are no extension leads used.
I will monitor my sync speeds of the next 3 days or so. Hopefully I will be back up to speed then.

Might be worth running Routerstats to see if and when the connection is resyncing.
