Re: How many disconnects I am getting a day? Had enough of it!

Again BTO found no fault, but this was expected as the crackling had gone away again!
Back from work Tuesday and no internet connection; this was the router stats:-
Upstream
Noise Margin:  10.0  dB
Bandwidth:    448    kbps
Attenuation:  28.5  dB
Power:        12.3  dBm
Errors:
  FEC:  31582
  CRC:  30330
  HEC:  N/A
Downstream
  Noise Margin:  0.6    dB
Bandwidth:    3936  kbps
Attenuation:  52.0  dB
Power:        18.9  dBm
Errors:
  FEC:  226912
  CRC:  41668
  HEC:  92034
Failures since last reset:
  LOF:  9
  LOS:  79
  LPR:  0
  ES :  20944
Now test connection with another router and the router reports
                      Downstream              Upstream
SNR Margin                10.0                7.0  db
Line Attenuation        59.5                30.5  db
Data Rate                  3584              128  kbps
Max Rate                    3680                284  kbps
POWER                      18.5              11.5  dbm
The intermittent crackling is back. I have been using the test socket for more than a week now, new cables, new filter. If I understand correctly the Upstream SN being lower indicates an issue with noise on the line.
I have raised a complaint for this, BTO seem unwilling to do anything unless the test equipment detects an error, they need to start doing some proactive work to remedy this, I was told be an engineer sometime back that aluminium forms part of my wiring from the Street Cabinet to my property.
This time last year my phone line went down due to an attempted copper theft which resulted in loud crackling on the line BTO resolved the issue with the engineer making the statement that the crackling would return at some point, well it has intermittently!

Are the periods when the phone crackles associated with changes in the weather conditions?

Re: How many disconnects I am getting a day? Had enough of it!

Yes, I have mention this to PN in a ticket update and the last BTO engineer who was not interested.
He was a treat to watch working, he used a rusty terminal screw driver for his earth connection, the dongle for the test box has size 10 screws screwed on the sockets and the crocodile clips looked worse for ware, he did have trouble running the test locally ( house to exchange), he had use his mobile and test from remotely (exchange to house). Can't say I was very impressed !
The pole across the road where my phone line comes from also has power lines, this seems to be a stumbling block for more investigation, they need a hoist or a blue ladder and a second engineer to look at the crimps up the pole. They claim the crimp in the green cab is sound. My line to the must have many crimps on its journey from the exchange to my house plus a few additional ones thanks to the copper thieves.

Hi Dan,
I've just read your ticket response and I'll get this picked up to see what we need to do.

Re: How many disconnects I am getting a day? Had enough of it!

Update
Still hearing cracking on the line! Received an email saying interleaving was going to be turned ON, I already thought it is!
Are you sure I do not have a line fault, I reconnected Thomson router and ran RouterStats, just before 20:00 I did a 170701 test to check for noise.
Hopefully the attached help

It seems an automated order has been placed for interleaving after line testing, this will fail as interleaving is turned on.
Is the crackling on your phone line continuous?

Re: How many disconnects I am getting a day? Had enough of it!

Chris,
It is intermittent and this is the issue, it goes away for days at a time. Not helpful for fault finding.
last night it was crackling during a calls and at a start of the 170701 call I made before 20:00, you can see what happened to the connection from the routerstat graphs.
When every thing is working correctly I would expect the Up Stream noise to be about 21 during the periods of crackling it can go down to 6.
All hardware has been replaced and the test socket has been used for nearly two weeks so I can not believe the fault is my side of the NTE.
Can you post the latest connection graph so I can see the number of recent failures please?

It's doesn't look pretty:

It certainly sounds like it's external to your property, I'm going to again pass some notes over to our faults team.

Question #75574748 - very frustrated

To say I've had enough would be an understatement.
You seem to have a disconnect not only between yourselves and BTO but between your departments.

Re: How many disconnects I am getting a day? Had enough of it!

Hi there, sorry about that. I suspect it would be better to investigate this as a phone line issue given that the noise is now audible on calls, though we can progress the broadband fault if you wish - please let us know.

Matt,
Someone removed the above comment from the Feedback which is rather annoying. Please look at question
#75574748 Still waiting for an update !!!
4:10pm, Saturday 12 Oct 2013
I have been having intermittent crackling on my phone line since the end of July 2013 which is causing these drops. See forum thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,118249.0.html for my current frustrations
Your proposed visit will be the FOURTH you have arranged for BT Openreach.
Ticket 72690250 raised 01/08/13 - Visit 1 - NFF
Ticket 74384137 raised 12/09/12013 - Visits 2 and 3 - NFF
Unless BTO actually do something to resolve this issue I am not prepared for anyone in the house to take time off work for a fourth visit to give access to a another disinterested engineer. If the fault tickets are to believed I've had three visits from the same one.
So I need to be sure before arranging for anymore time off work that this issue has been escalated to a higher level of BTO engineer. A FULL investigation need to be carried out between the exchange and my property maybe line swap of the 'E Pair' or 'D pair' is required, just plugging test equipment in to the test socket and reporting NFF is not going to clear this issue.
I can not fully express my frustration at the disconnected service I am getting from PN and BT Openreach, if I had the choice of using a company where BTO were not involved I would, sadly I don't.
So at your earliest opportunity I would like a call from your escalation manager to discuss with me what your are going to do.
I just want this issue resolved, if you are not bothered about my custom let me know and I go else where.

I moved it into your main thread to keep the problem in one place thereby helping with a solution.

Strat,
Been nice if you had told me or added a comment.
My point of adding on the feedback site was to express my annoyance that this issue is not been resolved. I raised a complaint on the 8th Oct which has not been responded too.
As you should be able to tell I get getting feed up with all of this.
Dan.

I actually reported your post. Have multiple topics open nearly always muddies the waters. I might perhaps have just locked your feedback topic in favour of this one rather than delete it.
