High pitched whine from TG582n

Hi Plusnet,
Having recently renewed my contract with you a new router (TG582n) was offered as a sweetener to the deal. Whilst the router has seemingly cleared up my previous connection issues (touch wood!) it has done so at the expense of an incredibly annoying high pitched whine.
Searching the forums reveals that this was a common issue discussed back in March/April and it was mentioned that you were keen to get these noisy routers back to investigate the issue.
Did you ever get to the bottom of it? I am assuming not given I've just been sent one that is afflicted. However, I note from some other discussions that the FTTC version flashed with the ADSL firmware is an effective resolution. Is this still the case and, if so, would it be possible for me to explore that route?

Re: High pitched whine from TG582n

As far as I was aware the routers were identical apart from the firmware so I don't think there is an FTTC router as such.
However PN will probably swap it out for another hopefully quieter router.

The problem was eventually identified: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,114585.msg997114.html#msg997114
(The problem was that they also removed the dying gasp circuitry in addition to removing the USB port.)

Thanks for that pointer - don't know how I missed that critical thread!
I'll post in the thread to keep the noise down here (if you'll excuse the pun).
