High Latency connection

Since the beginning of the month, my internet connection is becoming more and more unresponsive, web pages take seconds to load their content
this was the 5th October

This was this Sunday just gone

Any suggestions on how i can get my connection improved?
Thanks

Re: High Latency connection

Not sure if I'm missing something, but those graphs look very similar from a latency point of view?
What are your speeds like? Have you been through any of the checks at https://faults.plus.net ?

Re: High Latency connection

BT Test shows 29 down 6 up and a latency of 45ms
I am really shocked that the FTTC service comes with such a high latency where as most people i see posting on forums with either Plusnet or BT have 10ms on average
Where as ADSL/ADSL2+ and Cable customers get 10ms...

Re: High Latency connection

The latency figure from the BT speed test is wildly inaccurate and should just be ignored. Please try a different ping testing service or even better a command prompt ping from your computer.
That's RPM to you!!

Re: High Latency connection

Your TBB graphs show a consistent average ping of 25ms. I wonder if your line has had some instability and interleaving turned on.

Re: High Latency connection

I just miss my low latency ADSL2+ connection, ping to bbc.co.uk used to be 10ms, now its 27ms
One of the Counter Strike servers I play on a lot, is 38ms where as before it was 22, a friend of mine on virgin gets 18ms
Battlefield 3 i used to have 17ms, now its 40ms
A traceroute always shows this around 35-40ms sometimes more, can the PlusNet network not handle the amount of subscribers it has?
35 ms    36 ms    46 ms  lo0-central10.ptw-ag02.plus.net [195.166.128.196]
Thanks
Just to add, my connect cannot even stream 1080 youtube or twitch content either, I can only successfully get the 720 content

Re: High Latency connection

You should be able to stream at 1080p with your speeds and a 27ms ping.
Are you using a wired or wireless connection? Also, interleaving is off on your line.

Re: High Latency connection

Hi Chris,
My PC is only ever wired, doesn't have a wireless adapter
So I just rebooted my router and did the famous speedtest, my connection has gone from 32mbit down (speed check said 47mbit, but i need a copper line for that!) to 28mbit down and now 11mbit down

However I have to say that is the lowest ping I have ever seen, usually its 38ms
So now just need to keep this
Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.251.195] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=120
Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=120
Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=120
Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=120
Ping statistics for 212.58.251.195:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 17ms, Average = 16ms
and get my 32mbit back  Smiley

Re: High Latency connection

After several reboots and a full power cycle of the VDSL modem, we now have this

Re: High Latency connection

You've got quite a bit of fluctuation going on, you've no capacity issues at your exchange so that's not the cause.
Your ping is certainly lower, this could also be down to how busy the speed test server is when you're running this.
If your speed thorughput continues to change I'd suggest raising a fault - http://faults.plus.net and we'll get that looked into.
I'd also suggest refraining from doing too many reboots of your router as this could cause further issues.
