Had to Format now cannot connect

Hi Everybody
Been with Plus net for over 2 years now with no probs what so ever but
Got a virus on my laptop last week and ended up having to do a full format,all now loaded up again but could not connect to my wireless router,just kept looking for IP address.THe router is a netgear but as I am writing this from my sisters house not sure of the model.
After a couple of hours of swearing I loaded up the disc that came with the router to check the settings but  when it asked for the normal username (admin) and password (password) it would not accept the password 
Would the best thing to do now be doing a reset to factory settings or am I doing something wrong,I have a small amount of PC knowledge but please treat me as a dummy 
I did check that the tcp\ip settings were on auto etc but still no joy,the router shows that its connected with the telephone line and internet lights doing what they should.
Going home soon to try the reset and should be able to see the forum on my Iphone.

If you are using wireless are you sure that you're connected to your router and not a neighbours?
Have you tried connecting to the router with your iPhone?

What sort of router are you trying to use?

It is connected to my router as there are no more about and it accepted the key.
Not tried the iphone but will do when im at home,just leaving now.
Will also post the router model

Ok home now
The Iphone will not connect either.
The router is a netgear DG834G v3
I am connected if I use the ethernet cable but still wont go wireless,the laptop finds it no bother but still searches for an IP address
I also have my sisters laptop here and it cannot connect either

Sorry should have said aquireing network address ( on both laptops) incase thats different

Have you tried rebooting your router? That can often help clear the conflicts.

Have you tried a factory reset yet?

I would disable the security settings and the Mac address access list if active and start from there.
