HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

Hi All hope this is the right forum and not the gaming one to post this problem
I have been a plusnet customer for the last 6/7 weeks and during that time i average between 3000 - 4500kbps downstream
this is the results of my speed test with BT today

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 7456 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5625 kbps
Pretty good at 5.6kbps BUT my speed regularly drops to 400-500 kbps especially at the weekend
this are my results from last night and within the last 30 mins using plus net speed checker
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 14:46 5385 kbps (673kB/s) 358 kbps (44.8kB/s) Share
Yesterday 21:03 525 kbps (65.6kB/s) 249 kbps (31.1kB/s) Share
Yesterday 20:57 882 kbps (110kB/s) 292 kbps (36.5kB/s) Share

I am on the BBYW Pro for the intention of gaming but as yet i have had nothing but problems and have on each occassion i have managed to get onto a server been kicked for high pings
This is really frustrating as the main purpose was to enjoy some weekend gaming but its not happening - i have the "new" Thompson router and that seems ok and i am at a complete loss
(oh i have asked for interleving to be switched off and this saw a good jump in speed but no change in pings
I have pinged bbc.co.uk today and got the following back which seems ok!!
Tracing route to www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.253.67]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1     5 ms    99 ms   100 ms  dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]
  2    57 ms    44 ms    57 ms  lo0-plusnet.ptn-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.123]
  3    56 ms    48 ms    60 ms  ge0-0-0-303.ptn-gw01.plus.net [84.92.3.9]
  4    52 ms    51 ms    46 ms  te2-2.thn-gw1.plus.net [212.159.1.54]
  5    45 ms    57 ms    45 ms  te2-3.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.1.58]
  6    44 ms    46 ms    47 ms  rt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.25]
  7    45 ms    54 ms    43 ms  212.58.238.149
  8    57 ms    46 ms    45 ms  te12-1.hsw1.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.234]
  9    48 ms    54 ms    53 ms  www-vip.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.253.67]
Trace complete.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

the numba 1 part of your tarceroute shjould be around 1 ms and certaintly not what your getting this is the time its taking to get traffic to your router.
are you using wireless or ethernet?
this is what i get to bbc.co.uk over wireless. i have interleaving off on my line

Cheers for the help guys
Oldjim how can you tell i still have interleving on? My request to switch off was acknowledged but i cant find anywhere on the site to confim if its on or off!!
I also have a D-Link DSL 2640B router is that likely to be better than the Thompsom? Its still wrapped as i was going to take it back !!  Cheesy

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

I was looking at the tracert which gives identical results to mine which has interleaved
Can you try the CLI commands.
Telnet into the router and type "adsl info"
You should see something like this

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

Hi snobdr,
I've just checked on the BT systems and your line is still interleaved which is the most likely cause of the high pings. Please post back if you'd like it turning off and I'll place the order for you.
Cheers,
Matt

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

@ASBO DOG
The reason isn't too obvious but I think that when  a router appears in a traceroute it  has had to generate a Time To Live (TTL) exceeded packet. This actually involves the processor of the router in a way that simply routing data doesn't..
In a Speedtouch processor the response to pings is given a very low priority hence the funny first hop

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

Just a general update
Thanks to Matt my interleving has now been switched OFF (hopefully) and in an attempt to get better results for gaming i have bought devolo homeplugs (av 200 easy model) and got these set to the router, pc and PS3
This weekend was the first chance to see if there was any difference and unfortunately, there is o-nly a slight improvement
Cry Cry Cry
I am still getting connection problems and pings are still generally over 100
anyone have any further ideas?Huh

Re: HELP - Constantly being kicked for high pings

Have you checked if there is a significant difference if you are directly connected to the router with an ethernet cable?
