Grabit download speed (help)

Please can someone help?
I am not in the least bit technical so please keep it simple.
I used to be with Zen and moved to plusnet after they discontinued the binary service. When with Zen I always had 8meg download speed. Since moving to plusnet i cannot get anything over 54kbps. Not even a Meg, anytime day or night. Can anyone help me PLEASE!.
Many thanks

Re: Grabit download speed (help)

Do you know what your current sync speed is? This may help you to get your Line stats if you don't know how -
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Could you also check your PN profile at https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed (don't post the last 4 digits of your phone number).
Depending on your package there will be traffic shaping, but it should be less severe outside peak hours.
Have a read and select your package - http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping.htm

Re: Grabit download speed (help)

For some reason, PN frown on usenet.
It goes to the back of the priority queue
Binary usenet is even more frowned on - their usenet offering doesn't even have it.
Your best bet seems to be bit torrent - if it suits your wants.
BTW You were tricked into that "unlimited" broadband.
Usage is unlimited
Speed can be very limited Smiley

Re: Grabit download speed (help)

Sucker or not it sounds as though he has a point. i was promissed a service that i am clearly not getting. and up to this point no one is able to help me acheive even dial up speed. it is true had i known this to be the case i would have opted for another company and paid extra for binary's. Bit torrent seems way to risky.
someone must have some idea as to another way of getting the binarys a lot quicker than 54kbps. if not with grabit with someone else.

Re: Grabit download speed (help)

I don't know if PN is currently running under an amber situation or not, if it is then
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/quality_broadband/load.shtml should make for an interesting read.
It's worth putting your package details into http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping.htm - this shows the
absolute maximum performance you can ever achieve with your package.

Re: Grabit download speed (help)

@bktadpoles
Welcome to the forum.
You should be getting considerably faster usenet speeds given the product that you have signed up for.  You are not on the unlimited package - you have signed up for Plusnet Pro which carries a 15GB peak usage allowance and prioritises all traffic at all times of the day.
Could you possibly show us the result of a normal speedtest over at http://mybroadbandspeed.co.uk
