Re: Gateway lottery

Brain,
Can you post your router stats please - lets see what the raw synch speeds are, SNRM, line attenuation and error counts.
have you ever run RouterStats to plot your SNRM?  There is every possibility that the disconnects are the result of the current SNRM going sub-zero so that a resynch is forced, thus could explain the variable speeds seen.  Nudging the SNRM up to 9dB without interleaving might deliver what you are looking for.
There is of course the possibility that your line has acquired a fault again.  Sounds like you are in a very rural area with long OH pairs - possibly aluminium?

Re: Gateway lottery

This is all the router gives me in the way of stats. It's a TP-LINK TD-W8980.
DSL
Line Status:Connected
DSL Modulation Type:ADSL_2plus
Annex Type:Annex A/L
                    Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps)  1120    13584
Max Rate (Kbps)      1124    13612
SNR Margin (dB)          6.5      5.1
Line Attenuation (dB)  11.6      30.7
Errors (Pkts)            0        0

RouterStats-Lite doesn't show my router in its list, but I have used it before and will give it a go.
As to where I live, it's a city, with fibre available (but not at my cab!) but we are in a green area surrounded by trees and the D side takes a fairly tortuous route to the cab.
Before I asked for the SNR reset the last time, the connection was stable, with 9dB target margin and interleaving on. I think if there was a fault, and the last engineer to visit didn't find one, then surely interleaving would have been activated by the DLM - as it hasn't been and I don't think the SNR is the issue (but will check with RouterStats-Lite), so I have asked for Interleaving to be switched on.

Re: Gateway lottery

Brian,
Nice US synch rate, however for the attenuation. the DS is a little slow.
Just to check your statement of the issue "dropping several times a day" - exactly what do you see?  Poor response / loss of PPP / loss of synch?
You might just be best raising (another) fault report at http://faults.plus.net just as a check-out.

Re: Gateway lottery

I've just tried RouterStats-Lite and it doesn't work with this router.
As regards raising another fault, I agree the DS is slow for the reported attenuation, but with previous routers I've had attenuation reporting at around 24dB downstream and it has synched over 17Mb in the past, so this may just be an issue with the way the TP-LINK reports stats. However, the connection drops only started again after the last SNR reset, which is why I've asked to try interleaving on in the first instance.
The PPP connection actually physically drops, sometimes (but not always) accompanied by a loss of synch. It usually reconnects within a couple of minutes.

Re: Gateway lottery

Brain,
Just looked at your profile to see where you to see if your were in striking distance to lend you a TG router.  I'm North Cheshire... even though I'm off up to Glasgow for a day's jolly, you are still too far away to help!
Cheers,
Kevin

Re: Gateway lottery

I know it's against the Forum Rules to bump, but the DCT guys appear to have missed this. I'm still on Fastpath and still losing connection 2 or 3 times a day.
Can I pretty please with sugar on top get a RADIUS graph and interleaving back on?
Cool

Re: Gateway lottery

Sorry your thread got lost!
I've reset the line with Interleaving on to 6db. Here's your RADIUS Graph:

Re: Gateway lottery

Much appreciated, Chris. I'll keep a weather eye open.
The drops on the graph match with the router logs, so we'll just have to hope interleaving stabilises the line.
Pings are back to usual level.
C:\Users\Brian>ping -n 100 bbc.co.uk
Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.244.20] with 32 bytes of data:
<snip>
Ping statistics for 212.58.244.20:
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 40ms, Maximum = 44ms, Average = 40ms

I'll just have to see if the upstream interleaving reduces, as we're back to 888Kb upstream.
