Future speed increases

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any idea as to possible speed increases in the future. At the moment most people have speeds up to 8 Mbps and Id ideally like a rough idea on what speeds we are likely to see in the future and when.
Thanks  Smiley

Re: Future speed increases

Hi there,
ADSL2+ is set for commencement next year.  This will give speeds of upto 24Mbps.

Re: Future speed increases

Hi James,
Is it likely that ADSL2+ will be available on request at the same rates as now or will it be considered a separate product, and therefore a different price?

Many thanks

Pretty sure that prices will remain the same.

Re: Future speed increases

Thanks James. Any idea when next year it is likely to be available?
Can I check that we are talking about mass rollouts like when we were all upgraded up to 8Mbps over the course of a few months.

Re: Future speed increases

ADSL2+ will not appear before the core BT 21CN network upgrades are completed which is slated for 2008/2009 even then it will start as a trial with limited areas and numbers just like Max did. I estimate its more likely to be Q3/Q4 2008 before we see any trials.
People hoping for faster speeds may be disappointed though, especially if they are currently on 4Mbs or less with Max, as ADSL2+ will give very little improvement for those who are 4Km or further from the exchange. Only those less then 2KM are likely to see a big increase i.e. those already syncing above 7000Kbs.
In other words, those already on a fast Max connection will get the higher speeds. Those on a lower speed Max connection won't.
BT info and Other Info and here.

Trials dont sound like a mass rollout to me so it probably wont be until sometime in 2009 by the sound of it.
James if you do find any further info, do please let me know.

Re: Future speed increases

Initially, trials were expected at the end of this year, but seeing as we're practically there already, I won't be holding my breath.

Re: Future speed increases

What about LLU customers already on an ADSL2+ enabled line?
Not everyone is with BT!!  21CN isn't coming to my exchange until Q4 2009!!!!!!!

Re: Future speed increases

This is true.
I'm sure we'll be able to look into the strategy for our customers on LLU nearer the time.

What? As soon as that? Smiley
It's not coming to my exchange until Q1 2011  Sad
and then that's only the "target date".
