Friend's laptop is fast, wired desktop is slow

Any ideas?
A friend has an orange live box, His PC Is wired in and runs at dial up, while his wireless lappy flies along super fast. How can that be?

I assume that the PC doesn't have a modem connection and is dialling out instead of going through the router
