Re: First Socket No Improvement

The router is on the other wire. You can just see two wires to this socket (top left corner). One coming in to connect this one and the other carrying on out (BT wired) to where the router is.
I take your point though that if the wire to the router can pick up interference then it's very likely that the plug in extension wire (before the filter) can add to it.
No harm in moving the filter to the front of the extension and removing the one at the end. Anything to improve the connection is worth a try.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Hi billnotben,
Ahh, so the router is on the extension. In which case you'd need to try it directly into this socket as nine times out of ten extensions will be the main cause of troublesome connections.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Already tried that "Nearest to spur" stats.
As somebody already pointed out it seemed worse plugged into that.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

HI billnotben,
Looking at your stats from the beginning of the thread it looks like you're banded on 1472Kbps - 3072Kbps so that's why 3072 was the max sync you were getting. Plug it back in there, I'll see if I can get the banding removed and then we can check if the sync has increased.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Hi Jo, no PC near the first socket but I can connect a router there and leave it there say from 12pm-4pm if that is any good.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Not a lot of good - JoJo will want to see what the speed is like and how stable it is over a few days.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

While I wait for something to happen I removed all connections except the two necessary (all six were connected) from the extensions.
A nearby Telecom van, and its occupant, were happy to remove the unnecessary connections from the main socket (three were connected) for the princely sum of a cup of tea and a biscuit. I still think I was hard done by as it only took all of five seconds.
Any you can see by the SN Margin there has been an improvement. Hopefully the errors will be reduced as well.
Now it's just the waiting game.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Did your Telecom person make any comment about fitting an NTE5A?
If all goes well you "could" be getting around 8mbps.  Shocked

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Don't know what that is and never asked. Probably never had enough tea bags to cover the cost of one. Smiley
I remember a few years back when I had a phone problem it was remarked about the old style socket but it was never replaced.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

If that was around a couple of years ago they should have replaced mine when BT replaced my wire house to pole.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Hi billnotben,
I'll look into getting the banding removed and see how it goes. I'll let you know once it's done.

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Hi Joanne, thanks. Looks like the banding is removed and the line is being re-trained. SN Margin back to 6. I know the line will probably drop this evening because of that but I assume I just leave it continuously connected and let it sort itself out? Something I didn't do the first time around.
Is there anything recommended that I do? Just leave it or is there any time at all that I should disconnect and reconnect?

Re: First Socket No Improvement

Hi billnotben,
Don't change anything. It has been lifted now and your profile is 5000 which I've now applied on our side. You should see the improved speed in the next 15 minutes.

OK Joanne thanks. I'll resist any urge to fiddle with it. Smiley
