Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

What's your "Current line speed" from this page?

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Thanks all for you help, hopefully we'll find a cure.
Before heading off to bed I've done a few more tests (after doing a 'soft' disconnect, wait a few minutes then reconnect to internet) when most of the UK internet is sleeping - 3:30am.
BT Wholesale:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 13.41 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 16 Mbps-77.44 Mbps
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.44 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 12.96Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
and…

This was on ptw-ag01. Wired connection to router.
The only other information that may possibly be relevant is that I appear to still be on a fixed IP left over from my ADSL at my previous address.
Many thanks for your perseverance. Good night.
Cheers,
Tony

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Yes - it looks as if your download speed is (incorrectly) capped by Plusnet at 14.2Mbit/s. Probably a hangover from your ADSL product. Your line is sync-ed at 80Mbit/s (BT IP profile of 77.44Mbit/s).
You could either wait for one of the Digital Care team to pick up this thread and sort it, or log the problem at http://faults.plus.net/

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Many thanks for your help Bright.
I think I'll wait a few hours before contacting PN, so by then it's been active for at least 24 hours.
However, if someone at PN Towers decides to tweak a setting / unplug the kettle in the server room / install a fatter cable / or whatever before then I'd be extremely happy.  Grin

Hi there,
I've manually adjusted tour profile to match your new sync speeds so you can now enjoy them Smiley
Let me know how you get on.

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Excellent - thank you.
This is a smidgen better…
Cheesy
Now, during the install the BTOR engineer showed me that my speed would be 80/20 - can I have that now?  Wink I was tempted to point out that I'd probably have to be sitting inside the cabinet for that!
I'm now a very happy bunny.
All the very best.

Tony

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Oops, in my eagerness to speed test I forgot to switch from wi-fi to wired.
New test:

Interesting to see that the difference between wired and wireless is so small.
Many thanks everyone.

Tony

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Nice speed. Mine is slightly higher on download and slower on upload, and my ping is higher @29ms.

I had a lovely dip on the 17th Feb to 26Mb but changing gateways fixed that.
The speed seems to vary as well, upload getting faster (+/- 3Mb) and download slower (+/- 10Mb/s) but overall nice to have.
You must have been quite close to the router when you did the first test?

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

Excellent result!  I'm also very close to my cabinet and have always had very low latency (tempting fate!!):

@Hairy Biker - how do you go about changing gateways?

Re: Fibre & phone scheduled to be installed Monday - a few questions

On the router, drop the connection and reconnect - simple as that, you will usually be on a different g/w after you re-connect.
Use the user tools gateway checker (http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/) to see what you are on/moved to, if you get the same on, re-disconnect and try again.
