I have the plusnet suppier Netgear router
Originally supplied as
Hardware Version WNR1000v2
Firmware Version V1.0.1.1
I used the web interface to update the Firmware as recommended to V1.1.2.50 (ready for IP V6), it still functions but now I have two anoyances.
1) The link LEDs no longer flash to show traffic passing, they are permanently on when connected.
2) The router web interface no longer challenges for a user name / password, this is a security issue as anyone can change settings from internal network.
Are these normal behaviours, can anyone provide a solution.
Thanks
Colin

Sorry to reply to my own post but, owing to the lack of resonse, I been Googling.
I have fixed the logon security, by noting my configuration manually, the doing a factory reset using the switch on the rear and reconfiguring the router.
The LEDs not showing passing traffic still is a small concern.

To be honest, Colin, I'm not sure why that is. Can you not find anyone else talking about it?

Finally I have found something, not a solution, but confirmation that Netgear have changed their functions of link activity lights. It seems that less tech-savy people didn't like flashing lights. It has caused a bit of a riot on netgear forums at http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=71969. As a search on google for the firmware version brought this Plusnet page up as ranked no.5, I thought to add these comments. I firmly disapprove of the change, and pressure should be put on Netgear to put an option in a new firmware version to enable / disable the activity flash.
I would revert the firmware but that would disable IPv6 compatibility.
