Fed up just waiting for the web

Its 18:50 and I have just given up trying to load the BBC News Business Section. I could have sat here all night by the look of it. It seemed to get so far then stall, then on a refresh it just got nowhere. There is a down load coming in at the same time so the net is still there but I reckon a traceroute that shows 989mS trying to get  pte-ag2 to respond is a bit lengthy - see below.
Am I correct? Is this the Plusnet ghost at it again?
Incidentally, getting to the community site and then to the forums to post this was hardly lightening either.
[Edit] Further information below traceroute

I then tried a few other addresses and finally found I was getting nowhere so I tried a traceroute to PlusNets DNS - its below.
I think that means that the DNS is nailed to its perch - a stiff - an ex DNS - etc etc.

Re: Fed up just waiting for the web

Adiewoo: By 19:33, I was ok on the BBC site as well thanks.
I have since set up one of my DNS sources as OpenDNS and suddenly everything is lightening fast.
I am not too sure about the intricacies of traceroute outputs but it looks to me that Plusnet have a problem getting information from one place to another within their network. I would like anyone who does understand these things to confirm that if possible but it does sound an all to familiar story.

Re: Fed up just waiting for the web

The BBC were reporting DNS issues earlier this evening which may explain some of the problems seen in this thread. Having a look at the others but we are still in the Plan B configuration because of the volume of traffic on the network we're seeing.

Re: Fed up just waiting for the web

So you're still in plan B. Fine, but how did things get so bad that we've got here and are stuck. Frankly its getting beyond a joke, and if I hadn't just signed up for a discount if I stayed on I'd seriously be looking round for a new ISP .

Re: Fed up just waiting for the web

Thanks Dave. Any response is good and one with a possible explanation is better.
Just to add a bit of extra information though:- I ran one traceroute to the Plusnet DNS before the one presented above. I did not include that one as traceroute normally tries to translate the IP address into a domain name. It just kept putting up "cannot get a translation" messages (not quite that - but right sort of meaning) so I discovered the -n switch which stops it doing that and produced the second traceroute.
I can see that me failing to connect to the BBC could be caused at their end - though when I put in an IP address it got to them lightning quick. But when I put in the IP address of the Plusnet DNS, I cannot see that that can be a BBC problem.
As I understand Plan B, that should not affect web services and I assume DNS is part of that. Maybe Traceroutes are not though?

Re: Fed up just waiting for the web

i've posted in the "treacle" thread in the "community" section,  but thought id' mention here.  It's slow for me again tonight, but if it's the same as the past few nights, my gaming is still fine, it's just web browsing craaaaawling.  15mins for an adobe flash plugin @1.8mb.  Even on traffic management I doubt it would be that slow.
I'm nearly through looking on the forum, and am debating talking with my feet shortly.
I wonder how many people are having issues that don't even come on the forums.
