Hi
I'm getting periodic disconnects of my broadband; I've had the service for getting on for a month so I don't think it's likely to be the training algorithm.
The thing that makes me think it's likely to be plusnet PPPoe-layer problem rather than a line issue is:
a) the DSL light on the openreach box is on
b) in the router's web interface the "WAN Connection" section is listed as connected while the "Internet" section is not
c) rebooting the openreach box when the disconnection occurs makes no difference
d) then rebooting the plusnet router restarts the connection successfully.
In the past I've left the router in the hope that it would reconnect but it doesn't seem to - only rebooting the router resolves the problem.
Is there something I can do to debug this issue? Or do I just have to put up with it?
Thanks!

Yes, I've had the same issue, VDSL stays up but ppp drops and wont reconnect.
It appears the ppp session can sometimes take 8 minutes or more to re-connect. I've reported the issue in this forum but never got a reasonable answer.
When this happens, like you, I find the quickest way to re-connect is to reboot the router.

Hi there,
We're seeing the occasional drop but it doesn't look like anything major, unless it's disrupting the service for you and/or causing the line speed to drop:

If it does get worse you could always raise it as a fault at http://faults.plus.net and we'll get it investigated for you.

Ooh, very nice.
I'm assuming those are radius sessions, they appear to be showing the disconnect-reconnect as instantaneous, which might be misleading if the session doesn't actually end when the connection drops but instead drops before the creation of a new one...
I had an idea that it was worse than that; perhaps there's something else going on that causes the wifi to drop out that's making the problem seem worse than it is; my memory of the number of times I've rebooted the router must be skewed, I thought it was a couple more times.
To be honest it wouldn't bother me so much if it reconnected faster - twice (Friday and Monday) it's interrupted our online poker game (we generally play early-evening) which is frustrating, to say the least, and a 10 minute cycle is enough to make a significant difference if it's at the wrong time.
Interestingly for today's 9am disconnect I tried just rebooting the tg582n and leaving the openreach but that didn't fix the problem, which does leave me doubting my original diagnosis - only when I reboot _both_ boxes does it come back up.
I'm interested that it went offline last night (2am), I didn't power off the router that time, which implies that it does eventually recover. Is there a setting I can modify to do with the way it attempts to reconnect?
Something else interesting is that the reboots seem related to when units come online or offline - I was up late last night and 2am would be fairly soon after I shut down my laptop, while the Mrs' machine would have come on around 9am.
Thanks for the response!

2am is the time BT normally do maintenance at exchanges - might be listed on here if there was something done in your area http://status.zen.co.uk/broadband/

Hi there,
Just checking to see how things have been on your connection...
Thing's seem to be looking better?

Let me know how you're getting on.
