FTTC Questions

Noticed a new BT cabinet in the next street a few days ago, which had a sticker on saying that new fast broadband had arrived.
Checked my email at home (had been away for a few days) and there was an email from PN syaing that fibre was now available.
Now question is whether it will improve gaming (xbox live), streaming and general internet use.
I assume that Pro addon is available (should I feel the need).
Is it worthwhile buying a router, rather than the Technicolor 582n which PN supply?  I have read some reviews and people don't seem to get on well with it.  If a different router is the best option, then what do I need?
Thanks in advance.

Re: FTTC Questions

Hi vultura,
Yep fibre is available for you, your estimated speeds are just over 55MB/s.
With the improved speed then you should would certainly see an improvement across your broadband performance.
Pro add-on is available with our Extra packages, I would initially trial your line without it and if you feel you needed it then you always have the option of adding it on.
In terms of the router, it's personal preference, a TG582n is very user friendly, simple and easy to use and will give you access to plenty of features within the router.
If you were to purchase a router elsewhere, you would need to make sure it is has an Ethernet WAN port and they can use PPPoE.
Information can be found <a href="http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/fibre/fibre_faq.shtml#alternateRouter">here</a>
I hope this helps.
Chris

Re: FTTC Questions

Thanks for the reply Chris.
Are there any limitations with the TG582n, for example can I set my own SSID and Wireless key?  Will it allow me to forward ports or not?
BTW the link you gave mentions question 14, but only goes to question 13.....

Re: FTTC Questions

Yes you are able to set your own SSID and wireless key and also forward ports.
Good spot on the question 14! I'll get that amended.

Re: FTTC Questions

Unfortunately provisioning times are quite lengthy at the moment, we will always offer the earliest one available.
Let me know how you get on.

Re: FTTC Questions

I guess that is to be expected and long lead times are usually an issue being an early adoptor.
