FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

I had FTTC installed today and provisioned on 40/10 after PN CS advising i would be on 80/20 as I am on Fibre Unlimited. Engineer showed me his stats that line was topping out at dead on 40mb which made me think I might have been provisioned on 40/20. I queried this with PN who said they would place a manual over ride. I received a reply by email stating that 80/20 is not on my cabinet and that it only provides 40/10.
Can anyone help me out, are new cab's provisioned to only offer the 40/10 service and if so is there a site I can check to find out when 80/20 might be live?
Cheers,
Podman

Hi Podman,
I've placed a modify order to move you over to the 80/20 product, this will complete tomorrow.

Hi Chris,
Cheers for placing the order. This is all very confusing. I take it then my cabinet can do 80/20 as standard?
One confused customer.

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

A friend of mine who moved over to PN from BE was told his cab would only support 40Mb max but I'm pretty sure he's on a far higher speed after a bit of tweaking.

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

As I understood it all cab's can do 80/20
It was only a (simple) software upgrade to the line cards that was done to enable them to offer the higher speeds
They were changed from what is called profile 8 to profile 17 - sorry I can't remember when this was done or whether those who were already on FTTC on up to 40 service when that was all that was on offer were automatically upgraded to the full up to 80 service (if they were close enough to the cab' to take advantage of it)
I thought part of the delay in getting profile 17 implemented was that BT needed approval from OFCOM who manage the frequency spectrum of everything to allow the change as profile 17 utilises higher frequencies than profile 8 - frequencies up to, yes 17MHz - hence the name for it.
BTOR cap the service at 80 max even though houses close to the cabinet would be able to receive higher if they could take full advantage of all that profile 17 can offer (around 100) - beats me why BTdon't offer the final 20Mbps for the speed freaks close to the cabinet and charge 'em b*ggers another £10.
Perhaps there is indeed a tech' reason why BT is limiting it to 80.

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

Cheers Chris,
on the profile in the member centre line speed states 76.2mb which I presume is the accepted max PN profile line speed for FTTC. Now that the change of profile has gone through do i need to reset the modem and or router to get me line to take notice of the profile change.

78Mb is the current maximum on 80/20 service from PN so you are not far off it Smiley

Sorry to hijack OP!

Your current sync speed is 44Mb/s.

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

Upload speed is now above 11.5mb waiting to check download speed at noon peak time. Is my line speed the 76.2 mb listed in the member centre likely to be correct.

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

BT Wholesale speedtest (further diagnostic option) will confirm your BT IP profile which (within a few percent) confirms your sync speed.

Cheers,
so does the line speed in the member centre of 76.2mb mean anything in relation to what I might expect to see? or am I like living with too much hope  Cry

Re: FTTC Live today on 40/10 query over 80/20

Hopefully it reflects the BT IP Profile (and hence sync) but I can't be 100% certain.
[Edit] My PN 'Current line speed' is 55.6, BT IP profile is 55.78 and sync is 57632kbit/s so yours hopefully is looking good.
