FTP on Plusnet Premium

I'm currently using Premier opt1 and am considering moving to the modern packages. Reading about trafic shaping on Premium it says non-Plusnet FTP is limited at certain times of the day. Does this mean any sort of use of the FTP protocol that doesn't link to a plusnet server? I mean...
I run a very basic FTP server at home. I make certain files on the server available to download via FTP to specific work colleagues and vice versa (they have files I can grab via FTP too). Would Premium make the transfers slower than on say Plusnet Pro?
While I'm here, can I also ask, if I/my colleagues made transfers via HTTP or HTTPS would that traffic just be "seen" as web traffic and so be unrestricted?
Thanks for any heads-up on this subject!
ps file sizes vary between a few Kb to a maximum of 500MB.

Re: FTP on Plusnet Premium

Hi sinewave,
Upload wise (which is what this counts as - the connection is at your home, therefore getting stuff from it is upload) both ftp and http/https are unrestricted as per the page at http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/upload_speeds.shtml. Putting stuff onto the server (assuming you're doing so from somewhere with a sufficiently fast upload rate) will be subject to the download rate limits for non Plusnet FTP as per the tables at http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/download_speeds.shtml#premiumSpeeds - you might be better using something like scp as that falls under the VPN bracket which is line speed up until 6pm.
Hope that helps,

Re: FTP on Plusnet Premium

That helps Matt. cheers.
So in a nut-shell, for Premium, assuming a (remote) colleague has a decent upload rate, during busy times,
a) They will be able to download from me at unrestricted line rate. (thats ~my~ unrestricted upload rate)
but
b) will only be able to upload to me at 256kb/s. ie I can only get 256kb/s download speeds at peak times (this seems incredibly slow!).
...and I gather this is best hope values too.
As its my server that folk tend to use for our "file distribution centre" folk will feel the pinch when uploading files. (while I get gigabit speeds -heh)
Plusnet Pro looks unrestricted across the board.
It looks like its Plusnet Pro for me then.
cheers for the help. The details can be so important sometimes - yet so difficult to piece together for an addled brain like mine.
😉
