No problem.
Despite the bad behaviour of the iPad and Android phones regarding the DHCP leases it seems the old Thomson router can't deal with it while the D-Link one can. 
Given this can cause the router to crash which just looks like the ADSL connection has been dropped it would not surprise me if people who complain of poor connection reliability are in fact having router crashes for this reason.  It can't be just my router that behaves like this.
So if you do a line test when people report a connection fault and can't see any problem it might be the router that is falling over for this reason.
One thing is for sure this certainly confirmed my general view that any consumer electronics made by Thomson are to be avoided!
