Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Hello again. I had a power cut on Friday at 2.30 pm which caused my ip profile to drop again. This time from 3k to 1.25k.  I have had a constant connection now for 73 hours but still have my profile at 1.25k both with BT and plusnet.  My 1st question is does just one power cut then affect your profile? and secondly can Jojo (or anyone else who can) increase this for me at Plusnets end and possible contact Bt re increasing it with them if possible?  Tried the Help Assistant on Saturday eveing but as usual have had no reply!

HI su4stu,
Your sync rate is currently 1664k, this could be much higher but your SNR is 24dB. Are you in the test socket?

No don't have a test socket I'm afraid. Just the main one in the kitchen.

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Okay I have plugged the router into the main socket and these are the stats I get below.  As you can see the snr margin is 6.5, not sure if this is better or worse! My ip profile with Plusnet and BT is still at 1250, so do I  have to wait a further 72 hours to see any increase

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Hi su4stu,
There's such a big difference. In the extension your sync is 1664 and SNR is 24dB, in the main socket it's 5472 sync and 6.5dB SNR. So it's definitely the extension cable causing it. Can you not leave the router where it is and either get a long ethernet cable or a wireless adapter?

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Yes think i will need to get a longer cable.  It's not that I need anything plugged into the router, more that the position of the phone socket makes it a problem placing the router. Do you know if my speed will increase soon or will I need to wait the usual 72 hrs?

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Larger increases tend to happen quicker, and with that sync rate you should get a 4500 profile. I've seen it happen in as little as 4 hours but not always. If you leave it as it is and you've still not got the new profile by the morning I'll get onto BT and see what they can do Smiley

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Have checked my ip profile this morning and BT has it at 4500 kbps but Plusnet still has it at 1250. This means I am only getting a download speed of 1041 at the moment.  Could someone at Plusnet's end increase this for me please.  Many thanks  Smiley

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

As I pointed out before to PN it's no good BT system updating the profile in 4 hours if PN's system takes 12 hours.

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Didn't realise that!  I thought Plusnet could do it manually if requested.

Re: Drop in ip profile-AGAIN

Hi su4stu,
I've had to get on to our suppliers to change this so I'm sorry it's taken so long. I've now changed it to 4500 on our side and you should see this within about 15 minutes.
