Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

Hi there,
TBH it depends on what you are downloading, I can see you are on BBYW Option 1 which has certain rate limits applied at certain times of the day. You can see which protocols these affect here:-

Are your speed test results good? Try performing a couple at http://www.speedtester.bt.com and post the results back.

In addition to what Chris says, can you post a comparative speedtest from http://speedtester.bt.com and http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk ; - this can help highligh configuration issues which are easily fixed Smiley

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

Hiya,
Thanks for your time on the phone just now.
Like I said, part of the problem might have been down to our not profiling your connection in line with what BT do, so I've just made a change at this end.
The speed test site I was telling you about was http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk
Another good one to use (although sometimes it doesn't work!) is http://www.speedtester.bt.com
It'll ask you for your telephone number and also your username.  the the one that looks like username@plusdsl.net
Let us know how you get on Smiley

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

Hey went to that website which was recommended and it says my download speed is 5783 kbps with an upload speed of 369 kbps. Is that good or bad????  Huh

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

I'd hazard a guess that it would have been better than it was when you were with Orange Wink
Let me know if things start feeling a little bit on the slow side and we'll see if there's something else that we can suggest.

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

I didnt get a chance to check out how the downloading was going due to my computer shutting itself down and restarting due to 'vital updates'.........very frustrating!!!

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

What are you downloading? Is it from a website or P2P/torrents?
If it's P2P/torrents then please remember that your account is subjected to the rate limits detailed here:-

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

I would suggest that if you're regularly using (or intending to use) P2P applications then Option 1 is not the correct account type for you to be on.  Option 1 is not designed for this sort of usage, which is why the restrictions are in-place.
If you're intending to continue using P2P, then at the very least I would suggest that Option 2 is a better option (although please bear in mind these are also rate-limited during peak times).
For a truly unrestricted (in terms of protocol limits) service, BBYW Pro would be the best suggestion as you will be able to attain line-speed 24/7.  However, there is a premium for this which is reflected in the higher charges for BBYW Pro.
You really need to assess your usage and look at the available options.  http://www.mybroadbandusage.co.uk/ is a good site for calculating what your usage is likely to be.

Re: Downloading speed so much slower than previous subscription

As Barry says option 1 really isn't designed for P2P usage, you may find a better product by using the usage calculator he's linked to.
Unfortunately cancelling your account would result in charges for the deferred activation and router we sent along with the 30 day cancellation period.
If you are going to be using P2P regularly then option 2 or pro would be my initial suggestions of accounts to switch to.
