Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Hello people,  I'm wondering if someone here could work some magic and check my line, I have raised a fault already, but that hasn't really helped, they told me to change filters etc, unplug anything else going into the phone line.  I've left the router on for the last 48 hrs uninterrupted, which hasn't helped.  It's a Ethernet connection to the router.  Thanks.

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

I can almost certainly see what is the problem
You are apparently on a banded profile - read here http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/broadband_terminology.shtml#bandedProfiles
However the real question is why
You say that you have kept the router connected for 48 hours without interruption but the up time is only just over 29 hours so something is causing problems
Have you tried the test socket (assuming you have one)
We can ignore the reported errors as they are probably spurious
You say that there is a fault ticket ongoing - have you answered all the questions so that it can get to the next stage

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Hello, I've just tried the test socket, speed still at 0.20.  So reading through the Banded Profiles bit, does this mean eventually good speed should return if the line is considered stable?

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

is there any possibility of leaving it permanently in the test socket
Speed tests are meaningless - we need the stats from the router
To answer your last point it won't fix itself
Once the staff come on here tomorrow they may be able to identify the cause of the banding and, if so, possibly remove it

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Yep, I can definitely leave it in the test socket and leave the router on, thanks for your help.

I have witnessed a banded profile remove itself after a few days of stability.  Plusnet  Tech. Support (by phone) said that would happen and declined to intervene.

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

I've just checked your line and would not want to remove banding whilst there's this many drops. Were many of these you disconnecting?

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Hello, looking at the times, I think a lot of those were me resetting the router in the hopes of improving speed.  The connection has dropped of it's own accord a couple of times that I remember, but I would say mostly it was manual disconnect/reconnects by me.  The green light for broadband has been rock solid as far as I know since I plugged it into the test socket last night.

That's more likely to slow things down so I'd avoid doing that too much.

The connections been stable for over a day now but I can see the SNR is still high and the line profile is still around 200kbps so I've submitted an SNR reset for you.

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Thanks for the reset, according the the bt speedtest, 7.15 Mbps is the Max Achievable Speed,  IP Profile for your line is - 7.77 Mbps, however, the downloads are still stuck at 0.21Mbps.  Is the line still waiting for stability?

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

This is probably the reason https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
The current line speed is stopping it - I assume it shows 0.25Mb
If it does raise a ticket here asking for the Plusnet profile to be lifted to match the IP profile https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=wizard&page=22883&wizard_id=38
If however it is 7.1Mb or similar go into your router http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bb/?be=0&l0=2&l1=-1 and click on disconnect opposite Internet then after a couple of minutes click on connect and that should fix it

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Thanks for your help mate, yes, it still says 0.25mbps for line profile, so I've raised a ticket as you suggested.  Thanks a lot!

Re: Download Speed at 0.23mps or thereabouts

Once they reply saying they have fixed it you will probably need to do the disconnect/ reconnect as suggested above
