Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

6 hours up time with very few errors logged looks good. To me that would suggest a SNR reset to bring the noise margin back to 6db would be worth a try as that would give you around another 800kbps.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Happy to give that a go ONeill, if you're interested? You'd almost certainly get more corrected errors but given how low they are now I doubt they'd have much of an effect on the connection.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

If you think an SNR reset would help give me more speed  by all means do it  Grin
New stats after nearly 6 hours, last one was after a reset and 6 minutes up time, sorry if you got the wrong idea about it.
Uptime: 0 days, 5:05:12

DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.1

HEC Errors (Up/Down): - / 847
On a side note I have noticed my in game ping to go up and down which is being caused by other people using the connection like web browsing, youtube and downloads, is this a router QOS problem or a side affect of plusnet prioritisation or some thing completely different.
I am happy to report though that my connection is alot better then on O2, webpages load faster, quicker downloads with youtube at 720p and some websites that where blocked before I can now access again.  Cheesy

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Hi there,
Looking at those stats I'm worried about the number of errors in a 5 hour uptime, I'm not sure it'd train at a faster speed to be honest as I'd worry about reducing that target SNR. Sorry about that.
As for the ping, it'll be increasing because those services are using the router's upload - not the download. We can't QoS that I'm afraid, though you might be able to set some rules up there to prioritise packets from your own PC? Don't tell them if you do though Wink
I think npr has some information on that on his site here: http://npr.me.uk/ipqos.html
Hope that helps.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Thanks for the link I'll have a read and see what I can do.
Here my errors after 24 hours
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 207 / 229,760

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 4 / 262

HEC Errors (Up/Down): - / 2,324
is there any thing I can do about the errors or is it just how it is  with BT connections and copper lines ?
On another thought would a move to adsl2/2+ be any good or would I be in the same boat because I know they use the same frequencies and better modulation and better error handling.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Just done a restart because router forgot some of my settings and to see if it would sync higher and it's now done this

DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.1

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 768 / 3,200

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 366.72 / 1.11

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 18.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.0 / 49.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 9.4

I have restarted it a few times now to see if it would go back up and no, it just goes lower.
On another note this damm router (582n) can't seem to remember my settings in the interface like in wifi or toolbox keeps going back to default, it stores my settings but then after a restart it goes back to default Sad

If the exchange sees a number of disconnections it thinks it's because of a problem with the line and it raises the target noise margin which will lower the speed in an attempt to stabilise the line.
You should therefore only ever do ONE restart to see if it improves things. Your target is still 9 so it looks like you might have got away with it - this time.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Jelv I retarted it once and it went straight to 3200 done it a few times after that now it wont move from 3328 with ATN of 49.5 and SNR of 9.1.
I don't know whats happening with the router/line or the exchange but it seems it's creeping back up again  Shocked

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Just got off the phone to support who had a look at my line and turned on interleaving, not sure if it's a bad or good thing but I thought FEC errors where an indication that it was on.
He said he was going to send me a link so I can do my own speed tests over 72 hours and report back to them, not had an email yet with the link but does he mean the one on my portal or the BT performance test?

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

If he sends you a link to mybroadbandspeed which is the one linked from the portal he needs a slap - it's FUBAR.
You can either use speedtest.net (link in my signature) or better http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Thanks for that Jelv, I just wish plusnet would do a new firmware for the 582n and sort out the QOS on it or give us an option to diasble it or a way for us to configure it better, has it's getting on my wick now and trying to game or better yet a better router with better WIFI and 1 GB lan ports/QOS, I might have to stick my own router back on, just a shame as it's does not show me the errors and that Sad

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Why not use both? Use the TG582 to connect to the internet and disable the WiFi on it. Then disable the DHCP on yours and give it a static IP address outside of the DHCP range of the TG582 (but on the same subnet - e.g. 192.168.1.10) and connect the two with an Ethernet cable.

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

I could try that, thanks Jelv.  Smiley
Router has been up for 3 days nearly and it's still syncing at the same speed 3424, is it now worth a router restart to get it to sync higher or ask for a SNR reset ?
Interleaving is on so I am told if that matters also still confused why I an some other people I've been reading are on ADSL1 when our exchange is ADSL2+ enabled?

Re: Down Load Speed/upload Speed and in game ping problem

Don't resync!
If your line is stable the next step is a SNR reset which Plusnet have to request. They will want to see the line is stable before requesting that (i.e. no resyncs)
21CN is not just ADSL2+, it is ADSL1 or ADSL2 or ADSL2+ depending on which works best for the individual line.

Ok thanks for that Jelv  Wink
Also can a member of plusnet do a SNR reset for me please ?.
