Does a move from ADSL to ADSL2 start a new 10 day Training period?

Just wondered whether I need to be careful what I do during the next 10 days.
I was unware of the move until it had happened and things are not looking too good at the moment!  Sad

Re: Does a move from ADSL to ADSL2 start a new 10 day Training period?

We just changed from ADSL to ADSL2+ , I spoke to someone on the phone at plusnet who informed me there is a 10 day training period.

Cheers
Paul.

I'm not sure whether I've started a new training period or not. My target SNM has remained at 9dB. I thought it was set to 6dB at the start of a training period but I could be wrong. Perhaps someone from PN will let me know on Monday. Until then, I'll be even more careful than usual!!  Undecided

Hi MrT,
it will start a new initialisation period but will take over the settings from the previous connection.

Re: Does a move from ADSL to ADSL2 start a new 10 day Training period?

Jojo,
Thanks for the update.
After my connection had been stable for 12 days, I was just about to request a target SRM reset to 6dB.
But as luck(?) would have it, my connection was moved from ADSL on 20CN to ADSL2 on ??CN in the early hours of day 13.
This connection has been stable for almost 2 days now, so a target SNM reset may still be appropriate. Observed SNM has been between 8dB and 10.5dB.
Given the choice, I would prefer higher speed to stability. (My line was fine on 6dB for about 12 months and stability was not an issue during most of that time).
Any views / advice?  Smiley

Sadly the DLM works the opposite way.

Jojo,
I agree about DLM. But that does not prevent the Target SNM being reset to 6dB as happened once for me some 14 months ago and for countless other people that have posted on the Forum. I just think it's worth another try.  Smiley

Hi MrT,
Sure, once the ten days is up and the line has been stable I'll look at resetting it to 6dB. Give me a nudge at the time to remind me.

OK. I'll keep my eyes on and hands off for the next 8 days.  Cool

Jojo, this is the reminder that you requested.

My line is reported as being 'quite solid'

From our point of view the line was actually quite solid after the change to ADSL2+ (about 5 days in total)

So I think my line has more to offer and the time is right to test that hypothesis by resetting the target noise margin to 6dB.
I hope you agree.  Smiley

Hi MrT,
Can you post the result of a BT speed test for me? I've just run some checks and it's 8dB at the moment, which is good for the line length. If the BT profile has increased now I can set ours so you get the higher speed.

Ok, I'll change our side to 3100 to allow for that. Smiley

Good. I see that now.
When will you be resetting the target noise margin to 6dB? Soon I hope!  Smiley

Re: Does a move from ADSL to ADSL2 start a new 10 day Training period?

I can try it, but not sure if it'll make things worse to be honest. At the moment it has a target of 9dB which is quite normal for your line. Like I said, I can try but if it were to cause problems, you'd just have to cope with that until we could get it sorted. Smiley
