Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

I've been offered to trial a future BT hub.
All the details I know are below in the image.

Sounds interesting NorthEasterner. Any ideas what might be different?

My HH4 updated itself a day after being connected to Plusnet

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Hey everyone
I wondered if you could help. I have the Home Hub 5 all setup and everything seems to be going fine apart from one slight issue. When I am using my iPad, it appears that it keeps swapping between the the  5GHz & 2.4GHz bands. This then stops videos from streaming and web pages loading. The only way around it is to turn the wifi off on the iPad and then back on again.
Is this a known issue, and is there a solution for it?
Thanks for any help  Smiley
EDIT: So I have just been reading up on this issue, and if I am understanding it correct the issue is coming from there only being one SSID for both bands. So the device is connecting to both, which some devices don't like. So I am going to rename the 5GHz one, but what I was wondering is it better to connect to the 2.4 or 5GHz band?
Thanks Smiley

I've seen a suggestion elsewhere that you give the 5GHz and 2.4GHz different network names so that you can specifically connect to one or the other.
Edit: It's actually further up this page: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,113872.msg1058551.html#msg1058551

Thanks jelv  Smiley I have just edited my post as well. Do you know if it is better to connect to the 2.4 or 5GHz band?

I think you can only find that by experimenting. I'd suspect the 5GHz would be better as there are likely to be fewer nearby networks on that. You may find one is better than the other at different locations in the house.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

One think I've noticed with HH4 is that it's not possible to get a full set of line stats - confirmed by searching forums.
All I can get is this:-
Connection time: 2 days, 11:14:39
Downstream: 9.364 Mbps
Upstream: 938 Kbps

Sorry i've not been on the forums replying to your posts.
There has been some family issues that i've had to sort out  Undecided
@ScottJames I hope separating the SSID's worked as the clashed SSID has been a known error to BT and haven't made changes on the hubs.

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

I have just got a Homehub 4 and followed the instructions above.  All is working fine except I think it is still acting as a Wi-fi hotspot.
I did the reset as instructed (done it again since as well!), but it shows the BT Wifi status as active.  I have turned both Wifi bands off so I can only assume that it is the hotspot that is active.
Is there any other way of turning it off?

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

The only way I can suggest is to leave the hotspot on and normally it will deactivate automatically.
Is there other hubs around you? Are your neighbours using a BT hub?

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Thanks, I guess I will just have to leave it as it is.
I am a little confused by it though - the hub reports BT Wi-fi Status as Active but I can't now see any sign of it on my phone!

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Once the hub connects back to BT (if it does) then BT WiFi will broadcast again.
In the meantime - if it bothers you - reset the hub and it should go off
