Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

Thought I'd collect the following quote since it's relevant to this topic (and the library article).
Quote from: Finguz
Initially we replaced the 582 with a home hub 3, but it can't be configured to respond to ping from wan, breaking BQM, so has been shelved.

Plusnet have advised that user attempts to edit the article are likely to be - at best - troublesome so it will be down to me to complete it. I tried to add to it this afternoon but it wouldn't play ball. It does that from time to time but I'll have another go later. Huh

Hmm wonder when they implemented that, you can't telnet into them either so no modding them that way.
Don't have one, would like one to test but so far freecycle has come up empty.

Jamie, thanks for confirming you are happy for me to put this in the library. It was always my intention that you were acknowledged as originator of the guide with a link to the topic.
Are you able to confirm that the settings options don't allow ping responder to be enabled from the WAN?

Oh I didn't realize you asked me to check if I could allow ping responder to be enabled from the WAN, could you assist me with this. I try and poke about on hub settings page.

Sorry, the ping responder query arose from the post elsewhere that I quoted in reply #16. I hadn't previously asked if you could confirm this.
In fact the Thinkbroadband Broadband Quality Monitor router set-up guide says BT Homehubs aren't supported so that confirms it.

So can you go ahead, and do the library post?Huh
I am going to invest in the Asus RT series. Not the expensive ones.

Yes, I'll finish off the library article.
The Asus routers get good reports in these forums so should be a good choice. Smiley

No, there is no option to respond to pings so no use for the TBB BQM...  Embarrassed

But given the option of a HH3 + no BBQM or a 582 +BBQM I know which I would go for  Wink

Re: Do want to use a BT Homehub 3 or 2 on Plusnet ADSL or FTTC?

The library article is complete now and I think incorporates comments in this thread with the exception of the HH1 with latest firmware not needing to be unlocked.
Would revising the "needs to be unlocked" paragraph to a "needs to be upgraded"  equivalent, and quoting the firmware version required, be appropriate? I think going into obtaining and upgrading to later software is beyond the scope of the article.

I think that most people will go for a HH2 or 3 over a v1 anyway.

Yes, good point. Buying a HH1 is not really good value.
