Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

Tweaked my internal extension wiring and am now getting:
ADSL Link                Downstream  Upstream
Connection Speed 5504 kbps     832 kbps
Line Attenuation   51.0 db         27.5 db
Noise Margin             6.7 db             10.0 db
So am pretty pleased with that and it has now been like that for almost 24 hours, so another 2 days to go until my profile is lifted i think?

Yep, the profile should update after 72 hours. I have to say they are pretty good speeds for a 51db attenuation line!

Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

Just been on the BT speedtester and got the following results:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 832 kbps(UP-STREAM)  5216 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2226 kbps
and the +net portal shows:
Your High-speed Broadband Service
Your current broadband speed is 2500 Kbps
will these 2 figures become alingned?

Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

Yeah, thanks for all the advice. I'll blame my Dad's dodgy wiring..
I'm almost happy now Wink
My BT IP profile is still showing as 4500, but the plusnet one is still 2500 - thought these would be the same by now?
EDIT: Left my router off for 1.5 hours to see if that would help, as it seemed to help others but all is still the same. Can plusnet raise the profile shown in the member centre to match BT's?

Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

You need to raise a ticket explaining the difference.

Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

I raised a ticket yesterday afternoon (should have posted that earlier) with the details of the BT speed tester and what the portal was showing, also added a link to this thread for good measure.
The response I received was:
"Dear Mr XXXXXXX,
Thanks for letting us know. The '2500 Kbps' that you see is the latest update that our systems have from your local exchange, and these can often be delayed. This will not affect your connection speed, it is only for our information. You don't need to take any further action, but please let us know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Customer Services Guy"
But it is affecting my speed and still hasn't been updated this morning, do I need to send it back asking them to manually tweak it?
Thanks again..
EDIT: Checked the BT speedtester again this morning and the portal and everything is still the same.

Re: Do my stats suggest my connection speed could be better?

I have sent the ticket back with results from mybroadbandspeed over the last couple of months to show there has been no improvement in my download speed despite the profile lift.

Re: Do my stats suggest my speed could be better? Yes but now I have a stuck profile

OK, i'm not getting this. My ticket has been returned to me again:
"Dear Mr XXXX,
We are sorry if the previous reply was unclear; the line profile will automatically increase as long as the connection remains stable at the higher sync rate for a few days.
Please monitor for the next few days, and you should see the 'current broadband speed' update, allowing you higher throughput."
But it has been over 4 days now.
Am I missing something? Sad

Re: Do my stats suggest my speed could be better? Yes but now I have a stuck profile

Think I will do after my morning rush is over Smiley
Done another BT speedtest (Can't believe that is working so well) and still showing the 4500 IP profile but the portal is still the same.

Thanks for all for advice and encouragement, spoken to CS and they have upped my profile now seeing:
Today 10:01  4246 kbps (531kB/s)  704 kbps (88kB/s)
So very happy with that!
Thanks again..

Re: Do my stats suggest my speed could be better? Yes but now I have a stuck profile

Thanks Adiewoo,
I'm a little bit concerned that this wasn't addressed more appropriately.  Now, what they have said is correct, and your profile *should* automatically become aligned with the BT profile within 12-24 hours, however, it would have been a 'quick win' to amend your profile accordingly (and would also have stopped you contacting us again, not that we don't like hearing from you!) so I'll have a quick chat with those in question.

Re: Do my stats suggest my speed could be better? Yes but now I have a stuck profile

My connection has been stable for several months now, synching at around 5500 to 6000 kbps and my plusnet broadband speed setting was set at 5000 kbps.
10 days ago we had a power cut lasting about 2 hours.
Afterwards I re-connected (at 6144kbps) after a couple of attempts and it has remained connected ever since.
A few hours later I noticed that my plusnet speed setting had fallen to 4500 kbps, and expected that I had to wait the usual 2 or 3 days for the BT system to reset itself to 5000kbps.
I have been checking my plusnet setting over the last 10 days, but it has remained at 4500kbps.
After reading this thread I did a BT speed test and checked the plusnet setting again (results below):-
BT
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6144 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4038 kbps

Your High-speed Broadband Service
Plusnet
Your current broadband speed is 4500 Kbps

Until reading this thread, I had assumed that the plusnet figure was merely a repeat of the BT setting, but obviously not.
Can someone in plusnet reset my setting please?
