Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

I finally took the plunge into the murky waters of uptp 8mbit pipe dream about 2 months ago from 1mbit.
Now I had issues about evening connection stability, being a gamer thats a right royal pain.  So I tried to find out if its possible to Set the Datarate manually rather than have it change constantly if rebooting my router, in my case I wanted it Lower for a stable connection.  In the end no it can't be done only option was to increase my SNR to 9-12 range to force a lower speed profile.
Now before that I had a datarate of an avg of 4900 and this resulted in 4-6 disconnections over a 2 hour period during the night if my connection was heavily active, eg gaming, down too 3700 when it would Stay stable.
So after my SNR was increase this dropped to 4200-4400, still higher than I want but I can with multi forced reconnections get it back down to 3700 ish.
Now for the fun part, it's now increased again to 4400-4500 after about a week at 3700 and getting harder to force it back down to 3700.  So other than force reconnections and hope it drops anything else I can do or live with this?

Re: Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

Hi there,
Short of putting you onto a 2Mbps fixed line, we would have no way of controlling the dat rate.
Can I ask why you want to get your profile lowered?  Is it just to ensure that the stability is better in the evenings?  If so, I'd definitely go with the idea of getting a target SNR increase done.

Re: Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

Yep stabilty, I play LOTR and am atm raiding, so with me loosing connection it can cause a raid wipe depending on which class of character I'm on at that time.
But as it is my SNR has been increased already, it's average of 9-12 and on a Bad day its back to 6-8, which it currently is as I had a power cut during the night so lost my 3700 datarate.

If the target SNR has already been increase, then you shouldn't be seeing periods of time when this drops to 6-8dB.

Re: Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

Then the increase in my SNR isnt holding 100% of the time as its currently 7-8.

In which case a change in target SNR probably hasn't happened.
If you want me to get it raised then I'm more than happy to do so.

Sure speed isnt everything as long as I have 2mbit ish I'm happy, game patches in region of 1gig atm so take awhile even with my current 300kB/s

Okay.  So do you want me to try to get the SNR changed or try to get you moved to 2Mbps?

Re: Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

Just to check that my SNR has increased it not re-action it, 2mbit Ipstream isn't an option I used to get it but BT won't give it anymore they say my connection is 1mbit at best.
When 2mbit first came out I switched from 0.5 to 2mbit, at that time I expected 1mbit at best but got 2, then cash flow problems a few years later I had my phoneline cut and on reconnection it was 1mbit at best.
So stick with the SNR option for now, if that still doesnt help then I'll think about IPstream again as it was rock solid.  Only time I lost connection was when my router needed a reboot, which this brand does every 3-4 weeks.

Re: Data rate, I want it Fixed Stable rate

Ok thanks that did the trick, SNR is now 10-12 and no lost connections tonight with a datarate varing from 3000-3700, which I just checked with a few reboots.
