DNS? Can't get UK sites (like BBC, google, Facebook) - but can from US & Canada

Since first thing this morning I can't get any UK sites through my router (via my 3G mobile, no problem)
I even tried pinging from command line:
BBC.co.uk, google.co.uk, Facebook.co.uk - no response
Cbc.ca, google.com, Facebook.com - no problem
What's going on and when will it be fixed?

Same issue here in West Sussex, highly infuriating! wonder if we can change our own DNS look up?
