DG834 - netgear router

Works well apart from very rarely resets its self to ‘factory settings’ for no apparent reason. Just at a random point in time, it is surge protected, has the latest firmware, is about 5 years old.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Unless there is something you need that it does not do, stick with it.

I'd echo RR's view: it's one of the best at holding on to a connection at very low SNR.

I 100% agree.
Over the years I had Sitecom, Dlink, Linksys and even a Cisco 837 at one point running on an ADSL line which then became ADSL2+ Annex M.
By far the highest sync rate and most stable service I could get on the 5 mile long telephone line was with the Netgear DG834.
I wish I could still use it but I have FTTC now.

Keep your old DG834.  Give it an IP on your subnet, set the DHCP to a different range from your existing router and  enable the wireless.  Presto!  Handy extra Wireless Access Point and 4-port switch!  Just remove all your details from the onboard ADSL modem, untick "Auto Reconnect", and ignore it.

It is a DG834 not a DG834G so it has no access point. Being that the switch is only 100Mbps and unmanaged, I would have no use for it either.
It is just in a box along with other spare parts I will probably never need.
