Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

Have you managed to sort out opening an elevated command prompt and run all those ipconfig commands again?

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

And just to put another spanner in the works, I cannot connect to the modem using Firefox anymore (I had it open earlier today) but I can log in using Microsoft Edge. The password was saved in both places, and still is, but won't log in via firefox. Not even if I enter it myself!!!  Phone is connected too.  Have to go and see if ipad has logged in....  Shocked
No I haven't, I think I have had enough today......Sorry.

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

I can't say I blame you , but two thoughts, is this Window 10 an upgrade? Also the ipconfig /all suggests you were connected via wireless, if so I would delete all the connections and create a new one, but I would also connect via ethernet and go through everything again, but right now I'd switch it all off for 30 minutes (except the TG582n - which btw seems to have an ok hop 1 time on the tracert's posted since the firmware upgrade).

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

Yes it is an upgrade. Can't remember when it downloaded though. Using neighbours by wifi now as the netgear wn3000rp has stopped connecting. So no wifi indoors.  I've redone that connection too, I was using it off and on in the office but the signal isn't getting to the house for some reason. Such a pain when things go wrong, can't get on the I player or Netflix and all need resetting  Arh well tomorrow is another day!  Maybe we will get fibre soon then we can stop buffering every 5 minutes....

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

@AO the spoofed address appears in the ipconfig /all on the previous page  - maybe try 8.8.8.8?  ( not that I know what I am talking about  LOL)

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

The spoofed addresses are part of a cache, it's got nothing to do with what or whether you are pinging, tracert'ing or browsing. If a DNS lookup fails, then the next spoof address in the cache is allocated. There are no spoofed addresses in the ipconfig /all. The spoofed addresses all begin 198.18.1.xxx
Personally I've never found the cache to serve any useful purpose, I even turned mine off.
@mushroommrs
It seems highly probable that this problem is related (at least in part) to the Windows 10 DNS issue, but to eliminate other potential issues with the cause of extended latency, as previously mentioned you should be connected direct to the TG582n via Ethernet (and turn off the wireless).
The times on hop 1 of the tracerts seem fine since the firmware upgrade, so I'm not putting the TG582n at the top of the suspect list at this time.
Check telnet is still working, and if you haven't been running anything that would telnet the 582n for an hour or two, if there were already two active sessions, they should have died by themselves. But as previously explained you can check if RSL doesn't seem to get the data, and kill any active sessions.

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

OK. The connection has been pants all day. Just keeps randomly stopping although it says it is connected. Had a power cut this morning.  Modem rebooted at 1568/448 14/7.3 noise. speed is around 0.9 . 0.3.
I got rid of the Belkin bit showing in the IPCONFIG/ALL.  ran all the ipconfig flush etc in elevated.

Sorry- at least I covered myself saying I know not what I say.
It was reading this ( last few posts) where someone says they have fixed it.  I see noe it was just the wifi that didnt work
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/serious-internet-problem-1033761.html ;     (more about win 10 upgrade)

They somehow changed  the dns servers in the wireless lan section
The DNS servers in the ethernet part were working on 8.8.8.8.
And looking at mushroommrs ipconfig it has the DNS servers as : 192.168.1.254
which as you say are not spoofed but are possibly not DNS server either?

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

By convention the you normally leave the DNS to be set automatically, that usually means is is the Router (192.168.1.254) which is a proxy DNS which in turn routes to the ISP's default DNS (212.159.6.9 & 212.159.6.10) there's also 212.159.13.49 & 212.159.13.50
With most routers you can change the DNS it uses, you can also specify the DNS you want to use on a Windows machine as well. (I assume you can also do it on other machines).
@mushroommrs
That's really odd about RSL .I'll have a read through my settings (which I've used before) - unless I made a mistake pasting it up for you. There's another RSL "expert" who I know has been watching the thread, I'm sure she'll chip in if she's spotted anything Wink in case I've missed a tick here or there Undecided
If that sync speed holds, your Current Line speed will need to go up to match the IP Profile before you'll see the benefit.
The ipconfig /all looks OK as far as I can tell.
What have tracert's been like? Is the ping plotter still producing lots of off the scale values?

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

I've had quite a few pings around a 1000 today. In between there has been a few in the hundreds but in between them it has looked OK. I will run it tomorrow and see what it's like.
I'm wondering if the RSL isn't logging in to the router?  Still can't access the technicolor via Firefox, only via Edge. Neither can I get the netgear extender to work indoors. It's ok in the office everything connects to it ok. As soon as I bring it in connection fails. Which is odd. Can't pick up the tech. From the sitting room either which I could, albeit a crap signal.

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

I did wonder if RSL wasn't logging in, but you'd get the yellow triangle I think, not certain.
If you can post the full xDSL stats when you have time, the link in my sig should work just as well in Edge.
The wireless issue isn't anything as daft as just being on a different channel?
Could you have accidentally saved the wrong password in Firefox for the TG582n, I can't think of anything else at the moment.
Did you by any chance create a separate user for RSL to use? - I don't think I've talked about that, but that shouldn't stop it atm anyway.

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

The edge password is the newest, Firefox has been saved for a long time. I had actually logged in on Firefox and had been using it. Then it timed out and that was that. I've put it in manually but no joy.  Not sure about the channel, couldn't find the set up on the tech. Will have to try harder tomorrow.!
No seperate user fo rsl (no clue) 

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

Myabe AO has already covered this and I dont run RSL but have looked at RS full. (RSF)
Does it plot as zero or is it just blank?
In RSF on each graph there is a tickbox at the bottom left corner and you can select
or de select if a graph is plotted. Are yours ticked?
Also on the configuration screen it lists 6 graphs with tick boxes to select which you want. Again are they all ticked
Also if you have been ticking and unticking already maybe close RS leave it a few minutes then restart.
Instruction from help page:
If you select or de-select a graph once RouterStats has started plotting, it's recommended that you close RouterStats completely and re-open it. This is especially recommended if all the graphs are configured to be dragged together.

Re: Connected to gateway but not dns server

I don't see tick box bottom left?
It plots as zero
I have 3 of the 4 boxes ticked under Graphs - haven't ticked Plot average value of previous
Have close and reopened every time I have tried something. Or started from scratch...
