Cessation fee

Hello

Due to Covid 19 I no longer use my landline or internet from home...I spend a lot of my time at a different address..

I have just enquired with Plusnet about cancelling..

...and was told there is a £67 cessation fee!

Has anyone else had experience of this?

I think that fee is excessive

Re: Cessation fee

@SteveW66 If you are still in contract and break it for whatever reason, you are liable to pay to cancel it. Standard practice for any contract.

Re: Cessation fee

The fee for disconnecting the broadband used to be around £30 ish. That is a charge from BT for physically disconnecting, and passed on by Plusnet and other providers. Not sure why the rest of the charge is so high, unless you are still in contract.

Re: Cessation fee

@Marksfish The BT disconnection fee no longer applies, so the OP must still have a way to go on their contract. Without knowing how long, whether it is ADSL or Fibre and what their monthly charge is, we can make no assumptions.

Re: Cessation fee

Yes...I’m still in contract

I was expecting £20-30 cessation fee

£67 seems a lot

Thanks for the reply

Re: Cessation fee

Thanks for the reply John

Seems fair to charge a fee for ending the contract but I was expecting less than £67

Re: Cessation fee

Steve, are you ADSL or Fibre and what price are you paying - roughly - you can PM me if you like.

I found the cessation charges earlier - if you want me to hunt them out again, ask.

Re: Cessation fee

Hi John

Thanks for the reply

I've just been looking at the cessation charges.

It seems to be around £12 per month for each of the remaining months of the contract..which is £67 ish...

I suppose I have the option of completing the contract...cost about £125...or paying the cessation fee..

Maybe if I phone them again they may be more understanding...The reason I no longer use landline and broadband at this address is due to being out of work after the Coronavirus..

Thanks again

Steve

Re: Cessation fee

Steve,

If you phone and explain, they may be a bit more understanding, but I'm not sure you'll escape the charges.

Have a read of this blog post, it may explain a bit more:https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Blogs/Coronavirus-COVID-19-Latest-update-15th-June/ba-p/171549...
