Can you help?

I run an Apple Time Capsule as my wireless network, connected to a D-Link ADSL modem. Connection is via Ethernet. With this set-up I can achieve a download speed of up to 5Mb/s.
I have set up my neighbour who uses a PN wireless router. If I hook into his wireless network I can download at >6Mb/s.
Can anyone suggest what is going on? Both systems use WEP.
Any thoughts?
Kind Regards
Hugh

Re: Can you help?

There could be multiple reasons for this.
- Different product with us
- Different wholesale product (20CN vs 21CN)
- Faster sync speeds and therefore IP profile

Re: Can you help?

Thanks guys! Not quite sure I understand: We're both on £5.99 packages and we are attached properties built at exactly the same time. If anything his line is longer than mine!
Could we have different sync speeds and profile speeds?
Our exchange is not 21CN until March .....
Kind Regards

Re: Can you help?

I am in the middle of a terrace of three built on its own on the top of a hill. My phone line and number 1's apparently take a completely different route to number 3's line. So yes, it is possible for neighbours to have different line speeds.

Re: Can you help?

I have a pole outside my house, a couple of years ago they put in a few more polesup the road, the manhole is just the other side of my garden.  One cable went up the road, three detached properties, across a side road to a house, now it does at least have a prop in the middle

Re: Can you help?

I simply disconnect and reconnected - now speeds match my neighbour!
Problem solved.
Off to O2 - expecting great things from their LLU service.

Re: Can you help?

Hi Pierre!
Only that I've decided to try out O2 with their LLU services at my exchange. PN won't be offering up to @20M until March and will be a little more expensive so - I'll give O2 a go.
Thanks for your interest and best wishes
Hugh
PS  Not really as strange as you may think!

Re: Can you help?

my schedule is between 3 - 30 th march, but BT are giving end of June for the customer.  Also I am on Value at £5.99 so will not get the enhanced speed, just hope they dont put me on an ADSL2 line, happy where I am at 8128 synch

Re: Can you help?

Well, O2 are suggesting a speed of 17M! I live pretty close to the exchange.
We shall see. I may have made an almighty boo-boo in seeking greener grass.
If I have - then expect me back with PN with my tail between my legs!!
