Re: Can't connect to Facebook or YouTube

Hi Clanger,
Good to chat on the phone. As I said, I can't see anything that could have caused this and it seems to be fixed, but let me know if it comes back, post a full screenshot of the page that appears and we'll take a closer look.
For other people who might be interested, we've set operating system DNS to 212.159.6.9(Plusnet DNS) statically. DNS lookups against the router DNS server return correct results for Google and Facebook... I'm not sure how the redirection to the Flash update page occurred.

Re: Can't connect to Facebook or YouTube

I also saw this weird Flash Update thing when trying to access Google or Facebook sites, in the middle of all the DNS woes described in the "Ongoing DNS issues" thread: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,124469.0.html
If' I'd been using a Windows machine, I'd have thought it was a virus. As I use a Mac, I thought the DNS servers had been hijacked and were trying to trick me into installing some malware.
Since switching DNS servers to OpenDNS, the Flash update thing has gone away.

And please  send us the results of running these commands a few times (on your mac)
host google.com 192.168.1.1
host facebook.com 192.168.1.1

(where 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of your router)
This will show us if the results are good or bad.

Re: Can't connect to Facebook or YouTube

My router is an Edimax AR-7265WNA. I have it set to use OpenDNS now, rather than PN's servers, and it's all working fine at the moment.
Anyway:
$ host google.com 192.168.1.1
Using domain server:

Everything's still working fine so I'm confident it's now fixed.

Re: Can't connect to Facebook or YouTube

Your problem looks very similar to this: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,124724.0.html
It could be your router DNS was hijacked.

Re: Can't connect to Facebook or YouTube

I've seen this DNS exploit reported on Edimax routers as well as TP-Link ones.
