Can't access some Websites

I have been trying to access any of the Supermarket Travel Money websites and also Travelex but they just time out before page has loaded.

I suspect the supermarket websites use Travelex and that maybe the website that I cannot access, Travelex tell me all is fine with their website.

I did read where some people have had problems like mine and have had something to do with DHCP lease and given a new IP address.

I have seen the Disabling/Enabling DHCP on Windows 8/10 sticky on here but that didn't seem to work.

Any ideas anyone?

Have also tried this on another laptop and same problem, only common part is my PN Fibre router.

Re: Can't access some Websites

My normal action at this point is to manually reconfigure DNS as I have had problems with slow responses on some sites.

Try setting DNS on your PC to 8.8.8.8 which is Google and see if that helps.

Actual steps depend on your OS

Re: Can't access some Websites

Thanks for the suggestion bin, but unfortunately didn't work.

I don't understand why I cannot connect to the Travelex website if everyone else can, it is the same with another laptop so has to be my router somehow.

But why is it okay with all other websites I use.

Re: Can't access some Websites

OK - sooooo - other factors....

may be worth doing a cache and cookie flush in browsers

Perhaps relevant - different browsers?

Do you get the same issue wired and wireless

ad-blocking - but works fine for me with u-block origin

Really daft idea - you don't use a customised hosts file do you?

travelex.co.uk does not respond to ping but does reply to traceroute

does it make any difference if you do a search for travelex rather than type in directly

as it's an https site does it make a difference if you use full  https://www.travelex.co.uk/

obviously other https sites work OK cos this one does.

Re: Can't access some Websites

Ok, have tried most of those...

Have done a DNS flush and restart - No difference.

Tried IE, Firefox and Edge - all the same results.

Tried on wired PC and wireless laptop - no difference.

Have tried disabling Adblock and all Kaspersky Protection - Same results.

I don't use a customised host file.

Yes I saw that travelex does not respond to ping.

No difference if search for Travelex or use https.

I don't know what else to try, thanks for the suggestions by the way.

No, still won't load page.

Re: Can't access some Websites

Sorry - the only other thing I can think of is if you've got some kind of parental safeguarding/filter on the router itself. I don't have a PN fibre box so can't be sure how or if that is possible. Does the router allow any kind of whitelisting?

If you can access router logs does it show connection failures for travelex?

Re: Can't access some Websites

Hi Richard, I'm presuming this is the only sight you've noticed this happen with? I'd recommend a power cycle to see if it's linking to your IP address. If you turn the router off for 65 minutes when you turn it back on you should be assigned a new IP. Let us know if you can access the page after as I'll report this IP if so. If not then we can dive further into this one.

Kind regards,

Ben

Re: Can't access some Websites

Hi Ben, might be worth a try, will turn router off when I shut down for the night, guess it won't mater if off all night?

If it does maybe I will find an hour or so during the day when not using PC, intrigued why 65 minutes and not say 1 hour..

Travelex appears to be the only website I can't access, as mentioned earlier I wanted buy some Euros from one of the supermarkets and I think Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys all link to the Travelex website somehow as it just times out when hitting the links.

Re: Can't access some Websites

Fix

Hi Richard, Overnight will do fine and we always quote 65 minutes as any disconnection over 60 minutes usually results in a different IP address being assigned.
It may be worth posting your trace route to the .co.uk version of the site also to see if we or anyone on the community forums can spot anything suspicious.

Kind regards

Ben

Re: Can't access some Websites

Thanks Ben, managed to turn off router for about 75 minutes, just turned in on and hey presto, can reach all Supermarket travel money websites and Travelex.

Just hope the change of IP won't give me any problems reaching my usual websites.

Thanks again Ben.

Re: Can't access some Websites

Great to hear! you should be able to access your usual websites as it will have only been the previous IP address that wasn't getting through to certain sites and I'll be flagging this up.

King regards.

Re: Can't access some Websites

just FYI,

I've just had the same symptoms with jaguarforum.co.uk (ip 137.74.118.62). Tried the same as the OP & only after leaving the bb modem off for 60+ mins (actually 105 mins) it's now working again.
