Can P/N activate phone line?

Morning all
I have recommended a mate of mine to Plusnet. He has just moved into a new flat and doesnt want a 12 month contract so i am going to set him up with my old Belkin ADSL Router.
My question is....There is a phone socket in the flat but it is not activated. If he gets BT to activate it, surely they will tie him to a 12 month contract, can Plusnet activate the line if he takes their home phone and broadband package?
Any ideas....anyone!

Yes
I think that they charge for it but don't tie you in tp a 12 month contract

Yes.
If we need to "start a stopped line" there is a charge of £38.85, but on a monthly contract (as opposed to BTs annual contracts).

Re: Can P/N activate phone line?

If they left within 12 months though, presumably the activation would need to be paid for.

On a 12 month contract, I'd expect them to just need to buy out the contract.

I assume you mean the broadband activation?
The £38.85 is the activation for the PSTN service.  Broadband would, I assume, would have the normal "pay upfront" or "defererred activation" options.

Ok, now I'm confused.
Are we talking about BT or Plusnet? ADSL or PSTN?

Re: Can P/N activate phone line?

My point was if he is moving into a new flat and is getting the phone line activated, with Plusnet he would also need Broadband, that would also need activating.  The £38.85 is for the phone line, so he would either have to defer the Broadband activation, or pay it up front.  If he defers it, he would have to pay it if he leaves within 12 months.

Re: Can P/N activate phone line?

Ok, let me get my tuppence worth in.
He wants a phone line and he wants broadband. I am trying to steer him away from BT (12 month line rental contract)
If i am reading all you guys correctly, Plusnet could activate the line for £38(odds) and take his line rental at £9(or whatever it is these days), he could then get ADSL broadband activated by Plusnet (advised him to get the £14.99 option).
So over all, it would be £38 up front and around £25 p/m, thereafter.
Correct?

@Jameseh
Out of curiosity - can phone activations been done via the portal now or would it still involve a call to PN to arrange?

Re: Can P/N activate phone line?

Easiest way is by calling our Sales Team to get the process instigated.
I'm pretty sure it can be done by gicing a fake phone number, but the best bet is as above.
