Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

It looks like activity on your connection - when I download something, my pings spike too.

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

personally I would say they are normal as you using your connection quite a bit.

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

What is your connection speed/ip profile?
It would seem to me that all you are seeing is your connection being maxed out. The time-out's could be a number of things.  Do you tweak windows connection setting? how many computer are using the net at the same time? what router are you using and are you on wireless? has your line had interleaving turned off?

I think your best bet would be to use a QoS router (cap your speed to 70-80%) and set the mac address of your gaming machine as high priority. This way you will not max out your connection and see hight latency while downloading.

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

I have a 3 meg connection  Grin
The only tweak in windows I have done is the MTU 1492 the highest mine can do.
only 1 at a time Pc then PS3
Im using Netgear DGN3500
Use Pc wireless & PS3 wired
my line was on fastpath but then it got put on interleaving 4-5 days ago (even though the support team haven't answered my Q about putting me back onto fastpath  Angry )
with the QOS we never use 2 things at once so would be pointless to cap a 3 meg connection.
hope that answers your questions  Smiley

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

Ok I see, so basically as your line is only 3mb the chance of maxing it out are very high, even from doing the most simplest of things such as browsing the web. This is why your TBB Ping Graph is showing high latency (ping times). In regards to Time-out's this is more lickly to happen on long lines without interleaving. So having Interleaving switched off (fast path) means there is no error correcting.
So you need to make a choice between having Interleaving on and gain some download speed, higher latency and almost no time-out/packet-loss or having it turned off (fastpath) with faster latency (lower ping) but at the cost of reduced bandwidth (download speed) and a high risk of time-out/packet-loss.

I hope this helps.

Im just a customer btw.

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

My ping graph looks pretty similar to yours lowlatency. What gateway and exchange are you on? I'm currently connected to ptw-ag01 and Cheltenham exchange.
Packet losses for our line appear to be intermittent noise, source unknown but isn't anything in the home. Not really much chance of any BT engineer finding the fault, with it appearing to occur in the evening and not always every day.
That's RPM to you!!

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

It doesn't seem that anything is going on with the service per se, but as mentioned by Chris in reply #10, it looks as though your connection is dropping. This could be due to a line fault or some interference. Did you notice any connection problems with your previous provider? Can you hear any audible noise on your line when using the phone or had any problems with incoming or outgoing calls?
It could be helpful if you could post the full DSL stats from the modem/router for the connection.

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

It does look like the connection is still dropping so I'd be best advising you to raise a fault too:

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

I don't think Adam noticed that you've got a fault logged with us, I've mentioned it to him Wink
I can see that our faults team have made a few adjustments to your line, has there been any improvement?

Re: CONSTANT Packet loss

Hi I must admit gaming was really good yesterday really responsive.
This is my graph for today:

the disconnect was me at 2pm, switching my DNS to googles
been trying to watch sky go on the pc but it keeps buffering even on low settings(usually set to high with no problem)
Im not sure if its the connection or sky go?
