Just got home from work... browsing seems to be very dodgy tonight!
Unable to access Adslguide, facebook, wayne.pyrah.net, myspace & others
bbc.co.uk/news is fine, this site is fine, halifax.co.uk is fine

Could be related to this:

Subject: Network Connectivity Problems (51290) - NEW
We are currently experiencing a problem affecting a core network router in one of our London data suites.
Some customers may be having difficulty establishing a connection to the Internet, whilst others may only have intermittent access to certain websites, their email and other hosted services.
Our network engineers are working on the problem as a priority and further details will be provided as they become available.
Kind Regards,

Re: Browsing Issues?

Guess there must be a problem of some sort. Worked ok when I first got home 16.30 time. When I tried to use internet 10mins ago nothing happens. Fortunately I still have the facility to log in via the RIN network (I'm a legacy PAYG customer) and that works fine

Re: Browsing Issues?

Same issues here too in sunny Lincoln.
Connecting to my NetGear router homepage is also extremely slow - I thought this was independent of the Internet.  Will one affect the other?

Re: Browsing Issues?

Well, don't know about anybody else but my Internet connection is absolutely b0rked at the moment Sad
I suspect it's a combination of the core router problems this afternoon and possibly the fact that I'm on the Aladdin trial (but I could be wrong).
I get home, my kit's in sync and I have a PPP session. No Internet though. Traceroutes are doing very funny things indeed:
C:\Users\Bobby>tracert mail.plus.net
Tracing route to mail.plus.net [212.159.10.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    1 ms    1 ms    1 ms  home.gateway [192.168.1.1]
  2    31 ms    30 ms    30 ms  32.core.plus.net [195.166.128.32]
  3    29 ms    28 ms    28 ms  84.92.5.98
  4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  5    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  6  ^C

C:\Users\Bobby>tracert bbc.co.uk
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    1 ms    1 ms    1 ms  home.gateway [192.168.1.1]
  2    29 ms    36 ms    30 ms  32.core.plus.net [195.166.128.32]
  3    28 ms    28 ms    28 ms  84.92.5.98
  4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  5    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  6  ^C

C:\Users\Bobby>tracert google.com
Tracing route to google.com [72.14.207.99]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    1 ms    1 ms    1 ms  home.gateway [192.168.1.1]
  2    29 ms    27 ms    28 ms  32.core.plus.net [195.166.128.32]
  3    27 ms    28 ms    28 ms  84.92.5.98
  4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  5    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  6  ^C

So I disconnect and reconnect using the RIN network. No joy, DNS lookups are failing:
C:\Users\Bobby>tracert mail.plus.net
Unable to resolve target system name mail.plus.net.

C:\Users\Bobby>tracert bbc.co.uk
Unable to resolve target system name bbc.co.uk.

C:\Users\Bobby>tracert google.com
Unable to resolve target system name google.com.

I check the DNS servers I'm using. Both PlusNet:
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.159.6.10
                                    212.159.13.49

I change my secondary server to use OpenDNS:
  DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.159.6.10
                                      208.67.222.222

And I can then connect:
C:\Users\Bobby>tracert mail.plus.net
Tracing route to mail.plus.net [212.159.10.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    1 ms    1 ms    1 ms  home.gateway [192.168.1.1]
  2    28 ms    27 ms    27 ms  btdhg555-hg1.ealing.broadband.bt.net [217.41.201
.72]
  3    27 ms    27 ms    26 ms  217.41.201.33
  4    30 ms    30 ms    29 ms  217.41.201.110
  5    30 ms    29 ms    29 ms  217.47.177.26
  6    28 ms    29 ms    27 ms  217.41.168.25
  7    28 ms    27 ms    28 ms  217.41.168.66
  8    29 ms    28 ms    31 ms  217.41.168.118
  9    30 ms    28 ms    29 ms  212.140.233.38
10    30 ms    29 ms    28 ms  217.47.155.106
11    30 ms    30 ms    30 ms  core2-pos1-0-0-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [194.74
.65.121]
12    29 ms    28 ms    29 ms  core1-pos5-0-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [194.74.6
5.122]
13    30 ms    30 ms    30 ms  linx-gw2.plus.net [195.66.226.164]
14    32 ms    29 ms    30 ms  ae0-102.ptn-gw01.plus.net [212.159.1.53]
15    92 ms  224 ms  232 ms  gi0-1-31.ptc-gw1.plus.net [195.166.129.3]
16    37 ms    39 ms    37 ms  pos1-0.pih-cr1.plus.net [195.166.129.250]
17    37 ms    38 ms    37 ms  vlan8.pih-gw4.plus.net [212.159.0.30]
18    40 ms    39 ms    37 ms  pih-al3.plus.net [212.159.1.35]
19    38 ms    48 ms    41 ms  mail.plus.net [212.159.10.1]

Change back to using the PlusNet network (and OpenDNS) and I'm still unable to connect:
C:\Users\Bobby>tracert mail.plus.net
Tracing route to mail.plus.net [212.159.10.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    <1 ms    1 ms    1 ms  home.gateway [192.168.1.1]
  2    32 ms    34 ms    35 ms  32.core.plus.net [195.166.128.32]
  3    30 ms    48 ms    35 ms  84.92.5.98
  4    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  5    *        *        *    Request timed out.

So in a nutshell, the only way I can connect to the Internet at the moment is to use the RIN network and third party caching DNS servers Sad

Re: Browsing Issues?

Yup, my experience mirrors yours Bob - apart from having RIN to fall back on.  I've temporarily nicked a different account to log into 😄
I thought it was Aladdin but it seems to me more widespread than that

Glad to hear you guys are on the case.  I've been shedding website access all evening.  A Telnet based BBS and these forums are about all I can seem to access now  Grin

Re: Browsing Issues?

Just to add my pennorth.... Down here on the south coast (Portsmouth) Have had problems trying to log (since 17:30)  into BT speedtester, (been doing this every 3 hours since 0800) and it says my user profile is wrong !...then could not get on the net at all , eventually re-booted router at about 19: 50 and now seems to be o.k
(judging by what has been already said, I don`t think re-booting the router had anything to do with non connection)

Re: Browsing Issues?

Yup, lots of routes just sprang into life for me.
I guess whoever it was finished vacuuming the datacentre and plugged the router back in  Grin Grin

Re: Browsing Issues?

I've been able to browse all evening but at very poor speeds. It's still slow now.
