Re:Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

Can you post your router stats? Specifically up and downstream connection speeds, noise margin and attenuation.

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

The bit we needed is:
Quote from: shutter
  Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 1120  448

SNR Margin (dB): 7.6  19.0
Attenuation (dB): 63.5  25.0
Output Power (dBm): 12.3  17.3

You're never going to get great speeds because of how far you are from the exchange (the attenuation tells us that).
Can you plug the router in to the test socket inside the master socket - with no phones or anything else connected and post what you get for the above data then please.

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

No I cannot plug my router into the master socket at this time of night, there is someone asleep in that room and it is under the bed on the far wall... (another gem from BT.... fix the socket in a silly position)...
As far as the "internal wiring" and connections are concerned. NOTHING, repeat NOTHING has been changed/move/rewired/re-worked/removed prior to 1 November 2009.
Therefore... ipso facto. if the wiring is the same then the speed should also be the same....
as mentioned earlier in this post.... I could regularly achieve 1.4 mbs on a day to day basis. it was rock solid... although a couple of times I do remember being pleasantly surprised and seeing 1.7 mbs  and yes that was using the BT speed tester... (as a point of interest the www.speedtest.net uses the same OOKLA engine as the plusnet tester.)
The speed has dropped from 1.4 to 0.7 from the changeover of product. which is absolutely stupid....

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

The change of product is just a coincidence. We've seen cases where the Plusnet Current line speed gets out of step with the IP Profile when people change product which was my first suspicion (we've ruled that out), but we have NEVER seen a case where the Plusnet change of product affects the IP Profile set by BT.
Unfortunately, because your speed is in BT's acceptable range, unless the test socket shows something different, I fear there's not much that can be done. Sad
Edit: A thought - there isn't any background noise on the phone when you use it is there?

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

No..... no noise on the line at all....
I did notice "interleave" was mentioned in the stats...  does that have any affect?

I also notice there are a lot of posts below this one of mine, regarding a drop in speed on the change over of products..... sounds fishy to me...

EDIT EDIT EDIT
I shall have a go at the test socket tomorrow moring if I can get to it !.

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

With your line stats I'd guess you'd been interleaved all along - I wouldn't have thought it would give such a big drop as you are reporting anyway.
The BT IP Profile you now have is below the speeds you were getting previously so I'm almost  positive it's nothing to do with the account change.

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

Well, I think I will print out my line stats, and put them under my pillow for the tooth fairy to have a look at while I`m asleep,  Maybe she will be able to sort it out by the time I wake up.... Cheesy
If not, I will only have to wait another 24 hours for Plusnet CSA to get back to me regarding my  ticket....  Undecided
Goodnight all

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

Don`t trust your line stats to the tooth fairy.  she didn`t fix my speed.... !
Just checked the BT speedtester and their "best effort" is again less than what they profile..... a miserable 608kbs ..
One thing I remembered last night after I shut down the computer..... My profile when I was getting 1.4 mbs (which I was quite happy with) was 1250, so I know the line is capable of the speed, and as mentioned before, nothing has changed EXCEPT the package I am  on...
On that subject..... My package changed at 0001 on 1 November 2009, (Saturday night/Sunday morning.... I had a connection all day on Sunday , yet on Monday the 2nd I woke up to NO connection.... which is why I contacted CS by phone... Surely this should not have happened..... after all , it (the changeover) is only and admin job, changing letters and numbers on a computer database and should not have affected my connection..... especially 24 hours after the event.

Re: Broadband speed slow - Customer support speed = SLOWER STILL

now you have given use the magic info, you lost speed when you changed package, give JameseH a PM, he might get it fixed quick, but he leaves on the 12th
WE ALL SEEMED TO HAVE MISSED THAT ON YOUR FIRST POST Crazy
