Broadband speed erratic

Hi, could somebody please have a look at my connection? I normally have a constant 16-18Mb download speed, but Speedtest is showing between 2 and 5 and it's completely erratic. It's having a serious impact on my online gaming! Thanks.

Re: Broadband speed erratic

Hi there,

I've tested your line and there are no obvious issues, the connection from router to exchange is over 19Mbs/s and your line isn't dropping out either:

Upstream DSL Link Information Downstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 5.6 20.6
SNR Margin: 6.5 6.1
Errored Seconds: 9 11
HEC Errors: 8
Cell Count: 4717 8109
Speed: 1071 19203

Maximum Stable Rate (KBPS): 19296 Fault Threshold Rate (KBPS): 15437
Mean Time Between Retrains (Seconds): 86400 Mean Time Between Errors Upstream (Seconds): 86400
Indicative Line Quality: A Mean Time Between Errors Downstream (Seconds):

115

The BT performance test shows a good throughput of 16.5Mb/s too.

Can you run a BT speedtest when the speed is slow please, are the speeds slow at specific times or all times?

Re: Broadband speed erratic

Thank you for your reply. I ran a bt speedtest last night and it showed the same results as you. Seems to be working normally now. Although I am still getting packet loss now and again when online gaming. Could I ask though, when I first joined PlusNet years ago, I was hitting 19Mbs/s but now I am 16.5Mbs/s. Think my noise margin or something was increased? As an experiment, could I have this put back to how it was (3?) so that my speed increases back to 19Mbs/s levels?

Re: Broadband speed erratic

I've processed the SNR change to 3db now.

Let us know how you get on because this may cause further problems.

Re: Broadband speed erratic

Thank you. I will give it a day or so to see what happens. Although I've seen my router reboot twice in the space of an hour already this morning, but I'm hoping it's meant to do that to adjust to the new parameters?? I'm getting speeds of 18.03 now, which is amazing. But if it keeps disconnecting than I may have to get you to change it back how it was annoyingly. I'll let you know.

Re: Broadband speed erratic

Soooo, experiment failed. Had random connection loss at 3db. Asked PlusNet chat to put my SNR margin back up. It's fixed the connection loss, however my speed is now worse than it was before. At 15.5mb/s. Think I was on 6db before and had 16.5mb/s. Is there an in-between snr I could try at like 4.5db? See if it still works?

Fix
I am sorry I didn't reply to your private message, I'm not in the office this weekend. Sorry to hear 3db caused connection problems. The intervals of SNR are either 3db, 6db, 9db, 12db or 15db I'm afraid.

Re: Broadband speed erratic

@silkysean try a resynch around noon, that may give you a bit more speed.
