Re: Broadband speed absolutely dire

Forget the BT test - the main use of that is to find your IP Profile and we know what that is.
Use the thinkbroadband test - that gives some far more useful information or the one Jim linked.

Re: Broadband speed absolutely dire

Jim did not link to the think broadband test (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html?utm_source=mainsite&utm_medium=navigation&utm_campaign=speedtest&utm_content=sidebar), rather the PlusNET speed test, which I have just tried and does not appear to be working...  Roll_eyes
Jelv,
Either I miss read your original post or you edited it quickly that it did not get marked as edited!  Shocked

Re: Broadband speed absolutely dire

Hi,
Not cured at all, symptoms fixed yes, but cause not identified.
Can you please post your current router stats as requested above?

Jelv,
I like your thinking - PlusNET profile change without a PPP drop...
Then that would be very similar to the previous scenario.  Under some unidentified condition the line is synching up with a very poor synch speed and cascading a low profile delta to PlusNET.
If this action "fixes" the current symptoms, then the cause of intermittent slow synchs needs investigating.
Kevin

Suspicions confirmed and I think we are all agreed on what needs to be done now.
(and yes it was a quick edit)

It's not cured, we've just fixed the symptoms. We need to find out why it is occasionally syncing at very slow speed - until that is addressed it's likely to keep happening.

Re: Broadband speed absolutely dire

The stats aren't too bad - EXCEPT
Your noise margin is too high which indicates that the automatic systems are seeing instability and this is probably the occasional very low sync events
Can I suggest installing Routerstats (I assume you have a Windows Computer) http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm
Note to others - the reason why I say the stats aren't to bad is that they are better than mine. Note my line is just not very good
Noise Margin:  5.0    dB
Bandwidth:    3811  kbps
Attenuation:  50.0  dB
