Broadband keeps freezing

I am a little disappointed with Plusnet. I was on BT for some years and their service was pretty awful in regard to communication Getting through to Plusnet on the phone with a problem is almost as bad. Very long waiting time. The only advantage is that their call centres are in UK and everyone speaks English!!he Broadband keeps "freezing". This was a problem I had with BT. I have had the line checked but all OK. No devices attached. I wonder if upgrading my service would help? Any comments. JAC.

Re: Broadband keeps freezing

Upgrading your service cannot make things worse but I believe it would be unlikely to make it better. The basic services should not freeze and do not freeze unless there is something wrong. That fault may not be with your internet service, it could be your computer, hardware or software or the server sending you the data could be overloaded and having to take a rest before sending you some more.
There are many people on here who are willing to help and most know more than I do but all of them will need more details of the problem before they can offer much more than I have already said. Do you get the problem on more than one computer, more than one website for example. Once you are certain that it is the internet then the most likely cause is your phone line despite it being checked and found OK.
My personal hobbyhorse is interference on the phone line. My line normally runs with a noise margin of 6db and I get a good connection but for several hours each day there is interference on the line (probably from a neighbouring house's electrical kit),the noise margin drops to maybe 1db and my connection becomes useless as there are so many errors generated that the browser just sits there waiting for readable data. BT have been out twice and stated that the phone line is OK. So it was while they were here. It is really the neigbouring house that is at fault for generating the interference - but which one. You could have a similar problem. If you know how to get the noise figure from your router, then keeping track of that and seeing if it changes when the internet freezes would be worth doing.
However, my hobbyhorse aside, there are plenty of other possibilities but you would need to do some investigation and give people on here some more information before they can help much more.

Re: Broadband keeps freezing

Hi jacoppin,
As EnglishMohican says, more information would be needed to help with this really. If you could get your stats from the router that would help, as well as advising if all connected devices in your premises have the same issue?
We're seeing a number of dropped connections from this side though it's hard to tell if this is you rebooting the router or if the connection is dropping?

If you could advise either way there that'd help, though chances are if they're you rebooting then it's a wireless issue and if they're not then it's more likely to be a line fault.
