Back home in the US some of the providers allow you to turn on a compression mode for images, allowing you to consume less bandwidth and load pages faster....I have seen this feature on some broadband dongles in the UK too...its a pretty useful tool to save bandwidth and with Google Chrome you can just press shift+a to load full detailed images!
