Broadband game connection awful?

Over the past few months we've noticed a huge downgrade in game performance online when trying to play games, many times we can't even connect when we are trying to play a game with friends. This is on the PC though, the Xbox and PS3 work fine online. Just for some reason when we try to play multiplayer games online with people we'll either not be able to connect to the game and will just have game error messages come up. This is getting really annoying now is there something that can be done?

Re: Broadband game connection awful?

It's most games on the PC that I have trouble with when playing online, from Call of duty to World of Warcraft (just to name a couple). I've got the Technicolour router with a usual line speed of 7/8mb I get numerous errors but most of them are for when I'm trying to join games and I get error messages telling me I've failed to join because the game is not available, the ping test to server failed. Game timed out etc.

Over that period have you changed the security software (antivirus/firewall etc) on your PC at all?

Re: Broadband game connection awful?

Reading on the gaming forum  Wink Gus recommends that a connection of 15MB is the recommended for online games , Cry

Re: Broadband game connection awful?

15kB both up and down for each game running, if you have someone browsing on another pc while gaming, it doesn't take much for a first person shooter game to start lagging with skipping/ghosting.
Add to that the games now try to give everyone a artificially higher ping to equal out those why a bad connection, who would be at a disadvantage.  That is why I stopped playing FPS's, the hey day of UnrealTournament/Counter Strike is long past.  Only way to play lag free now is at a Lan meeting.

Re: Broadband game connection awful?

I'm moving this back up again,
Recently we've been switched over to plusnet Unlimited as per our request, even though we were already on Unlimited, we've just got it cheaper.  Anyway since then we've been getting really bad connections when gaming, for instances, losing connection to games. Unable to connect to servers and when playing on console games only 1-2 bar pings most of the time with spikes that really are annoying. Is there anything that can be done?
