Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Apologies for adapting the 'Masterchef' catchphrase but it's true in my case.
My telephone  line is not the best and I've had speed and connection problems in the past with MAAF and yourselves (although I've not pursued it with PlusNet thus far). All sorts of fixes were tried when I was with MAAF including BT visits but nothing was found internally that would affect the connection. The attached recent history shows the fluctuations in speed. Any thoughts or action would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ivor

Hi IvorG,
You'll see from the pic that there's been a few disconnections which have caused your profile to drop. Have a look here for some tips on troubleshooting this.

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Hi Joanne. Thanks for reply. The disconnection early this morning was me switching the router off and re-booting to see if it improved but to no avail. Otherwise the intermittent disconnects are what happens for whatever reason. As you can see from the test history speeds are very variable with no changes here as far as setup and equipment is concerned. I get quite excited when the download speed occasionally hits 1 or 1.1 kbps  Cheesy .
As previously mentioned I've done all the master socket stuff in the past, had MAAF try all sorts of adjustments and had BT engineers here twice where no internal faults were found. Is there anything you can do to give the system a bit of a boost from your end?
Thanks

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Could you describe your setup please. Where the router is plugged in, what you have in any telephone socket (filters, phones?, fax machines?, Sky boxes?, alarms?), if you are using extension leads.

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Hi jelv
It's a Thomson 585v7 router going into the main socket via a filter. There are no extension sockets or cables, no Sky, no alarms. The phone part of the splitter is connected to a BT Response 50 answer machine and a Panasonic cordless base station. Router runs wirelessly. I use a Mac mini running 10.6.8.

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

You need to keep an eye on the router uptime to see if and when you are getting disconnects (shame you use a Mac - otherwise you'd have been able to run RouterStats which could have been useful).
Have you checked if you can see a change in the noise margin when you use the phone or when the phone is ringing for an incoming call?
Cordless phones have been known to cause problems (particularly when the base station is near to the router). Have you an old wired phone you could use for a bit to see if that stops the disconnects?

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Hi IvorG,
I would say you should raise a fault. I did, however, notice that you did start to raise one earlier but it looks like you also closed it. I can only imagine that you selected the option that says 'my broadband is now working'

Hi Jojo
Yes I answered the question wrongly as you guessed and then gave up!

Re: Broadband doesn't get slower than this!

Hi jelv
There is a wired phone connected to the BT answerphone - a BT Relate 2100.  The cordless base station is several feet away  Can I raise this problem as a fault from here or do I need to speak to support?
Cheers
Ivor
PS: I'm really happy to be using a Mac Smiley

Have now completed the questions and raised a fault.
