Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Hi folks
I'm a returning customer to PN, it's great to be back Smiley
My BB is due to be activated this Friday.  However, I received the router today, and, being the impatient type that I am, I connected it to the master socket as soon as I got home lol Cheesy  All went initially well, all lights appeared, all were a solid green after 5 mins.  This indicated in my mind that the connection between my flat and the exchange is already up and running Smiley  However, when I went to go online, it prompted me for my username and password.  I put these in, and immediately the 'Internet' light went out Sad  Therefore I'm guessing that my account isn't live at PN's end.
I would have thought that it would have been activated at PN's end in advance of the line being connected to the exchange...am I wrong?  Is there anything I can do to get it activated in advance of Friday?

HI kosymodo,
have you migrated over to us from another provider or is this a new service?

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Hi Jojo Smiley
It's a new service - sorry, I confused things by saying I was a returning customer.  I used to have PN when I was married, but have since separated, and this is a new service in my new flat!

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Hi kosymodo,
in that case, if you have sync and are aware that if you were unable to connect once I manually activate it, I cannot raise a fault and your billing would start immediately. If you're happy with that I'll go for it.

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Yeah, that all sounds good to me!  So, to clarify, if it all goes pear shaped, I won't be able to raise a fault until after the original activation date of Friday?

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Yeah, BT won't accept faults on orders that aren't complete, you'll also not be able to run the BT speed test. I'll sort that for you now and get back to you. Smiley

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Is there a chance that this is the ADSL from a different ISP from the previous occupant?

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

@jelv - I don't think so, the flat has been unoccupied for at least a month or so
@jojo - Thanks!  I've just received the emails.  I can't actually test the connection until tonight, as I'm currently at work, using my work PC for taboo purposes  Wink

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

You've obviously left it set up because I can see you're connected Smiley

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Yeah, I did leave it connected...kinda thought there was no harm in doing so.  This means then that all the username/password details must have been successfully auto set up, as I'd factory re-set the router last night.  Amazing what you can do these days!
Next question...would I be likely to see any benefit in getting ADSL2+ activated on my line?  I think I'm about 3.5km from the (21CN enabled) exchange.  Is this something best pursued once my connection has settled?

Re: Bit of a stupid question re activation date

Look at your attenuation and use http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php find out what benefit you might see.
If it's small I'd stay with the better stability on 20CN!
