Re: Billion 7800N

I had to plug my old router back in to get a stable connection. I bought this router because I thought I would be able to tweak the SNR down to 3-4dB and then be able to get a 6.5Mb profile but maybe that's not possible.

Re: Billion 7800N

Should be better than that with your line attenuation..  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php. Should be around 8Mbps on BTMax., more on adsl2 and 2+.
Have you got any noise on the line that's audible?

According to Kitz I should sync at 6944kbps. The attentuation on the Billion is wrong, it's definately 40dB.

I have run the quiet line test several times and my line is perfectly clear. I raised a fault but nothing was found. I don't think this is going anywhere unless an Admin wants to look into this a bit more...

Re: Billion 7800N

How do you know it's definitely 40dB? And what is the Billion saying it is? If you put the Billion reading into the speed calculator does it give a result that's nearer to your actual speed?

...my attentuation is shown as 49dB but it is actually 40dB as shown by many other routers and by Plusnet.

Plusnet? Did they tell you it was 40dB?

Plusnet have confirmed this to me and I have used about 8 different routers and they have all reported 40dB. Plus, a neighbour gets 43dB on another router and they are just a few doors away.
I'll plug the Billion back in tonight and I'll post a RouterStats graph showing the drops.
Does anybody have any suggestions as this point in time? I have tried plugging into the master socket, different faceplate, different cables, different router. Adam has told me on here that my line is performing well but it never used to drop at 6dB and this is why I'm frustrated.

Joanne confirmed this to me on this forum. I'll try and find her post...

Re: Billion 7800N

I would suggest that it is a line problem somewhere, probably picking up intermittent noise from somewhere, especially if it's only a specific time problem. A 49dB attenuation would give you a speed of about 5Mbps. Is that what you are getting? Have you posted any stats anywhere?

Re: Billion 7800N

Now then, here's a thing! I get those apparent sudden drops in SNRM, BUT only when plotting it on Routerstats. If I plot it on Routerstats Lite they never appear!
What are you using? If it's the full version, try using the Lite version; might be just something to do with the RStats software data handling.

Re: Billion 7800N

Here is an image of the SNR dropping, does this indicate a fault as this happens a lot!

I can't browse the web and the DSL light goes off when this happens so I am losing connection.

Re: Billion 7800N and My Connection (Is it Faulty?) - Routerstats Graphs!

If this is the same thing that was happening with your other router then it's a line fault. The thing is though, if it was a real signal dropout that caused a resync (ie the DSL light goes off), it seems to have done a resync mighty quickly. It usually takes mine around 45 seconds to go back in, unless the time scale on that graph is compressed.
If it's genuine, your line is picking up noise from somewhere that's swamping the signal.

Re: Billion 7800N and My Connection (Is it Faulty?) - Routerstats Graphs!

Sorry, that graph doesn't show a resync, I posted it to show large dip in SNR.
