Hi guys,
never really considered the fact that my plusnet might not be going as quick as it should so i managed to do the BT profile tests and got the following results, can you let me know what you think? I do have a stable connection, but I thought there might be some extra kbps to be gained.
Cheers,
tom
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2598 kbps
My router returns the following stats:
Stream Type Actual Data Rate
Up Stream 448 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 8128 (Kbps.)
Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 25 dB 6 dB
Attenuation 36 dB 36 dB

What time of day was that?
Try it very late at night or early(ish) morning and see what throughput you get. Should be over 6000k really.
If it's not you may have some problem with your PC - how is it connected to the router?
(the router is going absolutely as fast as it can by the way)

Thanks HP, that was about 20:00 this evening.
My laptop and desktop are both connected to a wireless router, the test i did was on the laptop no more the two meters away from the router.
Excuse my ignorance but what effect would the PC have on the speed of my downloads?
My normal download speeds rarely get above 150kb/s... it should be higher than that shouldn't it?

All sorts of things slow up the connection between the PC and router.
Wireless is a favourite.....

Would the browser slowdown fault have affected the result at that time?

I tried tcpomptimizer from http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php on my computers and improved download speeds somewhat.

Hi Tomandali,
I'd certainly recommend trying to optimise the MTU and rWin settings as this can often generate pretty decent results. There's a video guide of how to do so on our website, which you can find here:
